Hi, I have just got freemcboot installed on my ps2 (finally) and I was gonna ask how to play backed up games

First, the HDDLOADER program that I installed is french (or something, its not English basically) is there an English version?

And can you play ps2 backups through a memory stick?
Also, can you use freemcboot to run foreign games? and do they run through memory stick if its possible??

I've had no problems with NTSC games on my PAL console.

You don't back them up through the ps2, you back them up on your PC using imgburn or similar software.

@Warmo161: All these questions have been asked and answered a few hundered times.

Btw.: There is a tutorial about 'OPL'/'Open PS2 Loader' linked on top of every page here on this site/forum.

If you have any problems related to the Video-Mode, you can search for 'GSM'/'GSModeselector'.

Ok, thanks I will have a look, also

So backing up ps2 games is easy as making an iso of them then?

Also, if you have an iso of your backed game, how do you install them to a ps2 hdd?

Yes, and the best tools for that task are DVD-Decrypter or ImgBurn.

Also, if you have an iso of your backed game, how do you install them to a ps2 hdd?
That can be done either by connecting that HDD to a PC and using either WinHiip or HDL_Dump, or by leaving the HDD in the PS2 but running a PS2 server for HDL-style installation of games, and then running HDL_Dump in networked mode, to install the game over network. That takes a little longer, but has the advantage of not forcing you to open the PS2 and yank out the HDD each time (which could be bad for the NA connectors).

But personally I prefer using the networking a different way, and never install games to the PS2 HDD anymore. Instead I leave them on the PC in the PS2SMB fileshare used by OPL to play games over network. This also has the advantage that multiple PS2 consoles can access the same game collection (even simultaneously).

    Best regards: dlanor

I was also planning to wire the HDD into an old computer to copy the games, or do it by the network as you said, so that should work fine I guess?

    Sure that should work fine.

But you should also be aware that if you are going to play the games over network, from storage on a PC, then you do not really need to have any HDD in the PS2 at all, as long as you have room for all your PS2 games on one HDD of the PC. The only extra hardware you need for the PS2 is the network adaptor (for the fat PS2 models) so as to be able to connect to the LAN of the PC.

NB: All slim PS2 models have LAN port built in, so they need no extra equipment.
Just avoid the latest SCPH-900xx model which doesn't support the FMCB softmod.

    Best regards: dlanor
