    Hello,

I've read in an earlier thread that pioneer has a bios for the a06 that can burn DVD9, but is there any idea if this sort of capability would be possible (or likely) with the a07?

I'm looking at the a07, but I'd hate to buy one if the cheaper a06 can eventually handle DVD9 and a07 can not.
Also, just to clear it up, what do the various model numbers mean... a06/106/106U/106D and the a07/107?

    thanks,
    mrC

there is no such thing as a bios that lets the a06 burn dvd9 discs. the model numbers with a in front mean that its a retail version (i.e. in a box with a pretty picture and the ide cables and screws included, but also they are the more expensive.)

That's not what it says here, unless I'm reading it wrong:

First of all it is called firmware, not bios. And secondly, yes this was demonstrated by Pioneer but they only burned 200mb onto the second layer. Makes you wonder why they didn't demonstrate burning an entire dvd huh? There are also no plans on releasing it. There might be a hacked firmware released though, but don't be suprised if it doesn't happen.

hehe...sorry I meant firmware and yes that is suspicious that they only burned 200mb. Maybe they wanted to stir up interest before the a07 launch or something.

    oh well...thanks.

Some say it was a genius marketing idea. Show that ability off to sell more A06 units then release the A07 a few weeks later. Good idea huh?
