  1. #1 Pioneer 104 and Primo DVD (Charlies tutorial) - anyone come across this problem

    Ok people
    need your help here,

I have win xp, primo dvd, pioneer 104 (firmware 1.33) and have installed the px engine for primodvd.

I got burnout 2 and made the gi file acording to charlies tutorial and it worked a dream. however when i tried to burn it using the same tutorial I got a message saying something like "job error" and then the job cancels and the disk pops out. now primo picks up the gi file correctly as around 3.9 gigs.

I am using unbranded media but surely the disk would burn and then the ps2 would just faily to read it. The other thing is that I have previously had success using this media with dvd movies on the ps2.

i have tried it with dma and p10 enabled and came across the same problem.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Help much appreciated!

Your HD could be too fragmented, try defrag before burn and always use a ntfs partition to put the gi file...

could it also be because you don't have enough free disk space??

Not necessarily so, as it depends on whether your current 104 firmware has support for that particular brand of generic media (which is part of the reason for past firmware revisions, especially with the A03/103 and now the A04/104.) BTW, is that cheap stuff 2x certified? The best way to resolve the issue is to get a known good 2x certified blank like a TDK, Verbatim, Pioneer, or Apple and try a test burn. Stick with PIO mode too and be sure to review the "sticky" at the top of this forum concerning Pioneer 104s.

Not necessary, as the Px Engine update splits a single GI into 1.99GB parts so that they can be saved to even a FAT16 drive running Win95. NTFS is in no way a requirement unless you've never applied the Px Engine update to your copy of PrimoDVD or RecordNow.

Mircosoft also claims that NTFS requires little or no defrag maintenance, but I don't completely buy that story. Defragging any drive which sees a good amount of file additions and deletions is always a good idea long term. This is especially true if you start receiving "buffer underrun" errors while burning.

could it also be because you don't have enough free disk space??

Has nothing to do with the situation. Think about it -- if he didn't have enough drive space, then how did he get the 3.9GB image on his hard drive to begin with as he would have received an error message during the creation of the GI file(s)?

Thanks for all your suggestions people.

i am pretty sure the firmware (1.33) supports the dvd media as I have used the same dvd writer and same media to make working dvd movie discs which i played on the ps2.

Tried to follow charlies tutoral for nero but the version i have differs from the instructiuons charlie gives and doesnt actually allow me to create an iso image. Any ideas on that? ;-)

As for the media itself, i doubt it is 2x certified but i have always written at 1x and this is my first fault as such, tried several discs but the disc isnt even written on at all.

Is there any other software which gives good ps2 backup results.

Both PrimoDVD and RecordNow are the basically the de-facto standards, and yes, they can create ISO files too. GIs are just the default format.

I'm serious, try a known good 2x certified name brand blank and see if you have the same issue. Sometimes that media is cheap because it fails to pass Quality Control and gets sold off to 3rd party folks (rather than shitcan it at a loss) who will sell practically anything to make a buck, especially on eBay...
