PAL GAME ---> NTSC TV/PS2 = screen rolling syndrome
PAL GAME ---> NTSC TV/PS2 = screen rolling syndrome –
03-24-2006,07:06 PM
PS2: slimline /w crystal chip v 1.1
Screen: Toshiba 27AF43 ( canada )
Flat Screen, 27 inch Display, 4:3 Aspect Ratio,
NTSC, 480i (SDTV), Digital 3-Line Comb Filter,
Speaker Power: 2 x 5 Watt
Im trying to run a PAL ps2 backup game on my NTSC TV as described above.
Whenever i run the game under these settings, the follwing happens;
1st Setting:
NTSC software video fixes; OFF
Pal software video fixes: ON
Force video mode: NTSC
Force Color: NTSC
Screen position modifiers: ON
Screen X modifier: -20
Screen Y modifier: -50
Result:
The game loads fine however #A. the TV screen keeps rolling.
2nd Setting:
NTSC software video fixes; OFF
Pal software video fixes: ON
Force video mode: PAL
Force Color: NTSC
Screen position modifiers: ON
Screen X modifier: -20
Screen Y modifier: -50
Results:
When i force PAL video mode the game loads fine without any screen rolling except that the pre-mission and post mission game movie cut-scenes keep crashing and the game moves on to the mission briefing...
I tested the " 1st setting " (Force video mode: NTSC) on my friends much older TV and the game loads perfect with no screen rolling or movie cut-scenes crashes.
Im trying to find out if there is any way to play my game without screen rolling movie cut scenes crashing.
Thanks for looking.

Yeah, patch the image file with a NTSC2PAL patcher, or better still, buy a True RGB Scart cable for PS2 (assuming your TV has a scart socket in the back).

Nope. That's your only 2 solutions other than to buy a new TV that'll support PAL 50Hz signals.
And you must have one helluva crappy TV if it doesn't have an RGB Scart socket in the back. Sorry for being so blunt.
Be aware, however, that the patcher doesn't always work & sometimes games fail to work if patched.

ace1, TVs in North America don't have SCART. Full stop. I've seen $75,000 projectors that don't even have it. In North America SCART is as common as light switches that turn on when flipped UPwards are in Europe.
Here, your choices are:
HDMI (good luck)
Component (ie: R/G/B separated cables, 3 total)
S-Video / S-VHS (ie: Luma / Chroma separated, all in one cable)
Composite (One cable)
RF (Ugggggh, coax crapola)
Older TVs (here) don't roll because the Vertical Hold (which controls the input frequency) is manually adjustable. It might be set to a point where both 50 and 60 Hz inputs work (colour still won't work, though). Newer TVs are locked to 60 Hz without said control. Yes it sucks. But even though it costs more for TV manufacturers to do this (make the TVs only work with NTSC and nothing at all close to PAL), they do it anyways for some lame-brained reason. The only other place that's this stupid with TV is Japan... Oh well.

My spare TV is a US one, and it has Scart. As does my US video recorder. So Scart does exist in the US.

u could use a cheap PAL-NTSC convertor with your standard ps2 component cable... i used this to run my ps2 on my comp with a tv tuner, works great! the hardware can cost you about $9-$10(US).....if your tv has just two sockets to insert the male RCA(video) and one female RCA(sound), then you can buy a convertor which inputs 2 female RCA's abd outputs one Female RCA, can cost you bout $1....
hope this solves your problem..

Interesting ace1. Well, perhaps the states in the US I've not shopped/lived in might use SCART (although I still doubt it). So, I've been in NY, OH, GA, PA, RI, FL, WV, VA, CT, NC, SC and I've shopped in pretty much all the big name electronics shops of the time (which, of course, is a dated list right now, including places like Silo and Sun Electronics -- you know, before all the BBs and CCs). I guess it might be limited to the South Western US states? I haven't been to any of those, I'm afraid...
I've also been to every Canadian province West of NFLD. and I can absolutely assure you that you have no chance of buying a SCART TV in Canada without some incredibly painful special orders at some very unusual stores.
But hey, I never said you couldn't install a light switch upside down... just why would you want to.
And yes, I have a SCART VCR as well, for the record. I had someone from Europe import it for me... I needed to convert some PAL tapes. Was plenty of fun taking the ONLY SCART cable I've ever seen and hacking it up so I could plug it into normal North American equipment.

I live in the US and I've never in my life seen a SCART port. I know what it IS, but I've never actually seen one.
So if "NTSC software video fixes: ON" doesn't convert the signal, what does it actually do?
