    Please help!
I live in Europe so I have a PAL Ps2 console. I just bought Rock Band 2 from a US store (no choice since the game still isn't released in Europe) and now I cant find a way to run the game using Swap Magic 3.8 because it's a double-layer NTSC DVD!

It seems impossible to swap a dual layer game even though I bought the damn original DVD!!

What can I do? Is there a way I could run this original DVD?
I didn't find any ripkit for Rock Band 2, but is there any other option that would allow me to rip the game and "convert it" in some ways so that my console reads it?

2ways I keept in mind yet,...

    1. Swap with a PAL DL-Game with a high TOC.

    2. Swap with a Video-DVD, which should work regardless of the TOC or how many layers the dvd have.
    But this method requires FMCB+ESR.
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB
    PS2 V7/CC1.0 (FW:34 hacked v2 BM:2.1.6); Maxtor DiamondMAX9 PLUS 160GB
    PS2 SCPH-30004R; NoMod+NoLaser

    3xSony BBA
    3xSony MC 8MB
    MAX/Datel 16MB with Boot-CD
    MAX/Datel 32MB&64MB

    Custom FMCB 1.8b+ Beta-Build, my AIO 0.5, Sony&xRhino-Linux

    1. Since I dont own any official DL-game (except for this one which is no use!), I cannot try this method. I even thought of buying a high TOC game just for this purpose, but in the end, if it doesn't work, I will have paid 2 expensive games for absolutely no reason!

    2. I'll give that a try! Thank you so much for pointing out this alternative!! But since I'm a newbie I have to start from the very beginning! I found the following links in one of "Scooter's" posts and I'll be starting from there :

    Free MCBoot 1.8: http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast...-releases.html
ESR and ESR disc patcher GUI v0.24a: http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/free...blic-beta.html

And for people that would be in the same situation... I'll post my results here as soon as I can confirm that this method works or not.

    Again, thanks TnA !

    I have a huge headache!!
I followed everything I could! I have successfully installed FMCB (version 1.8) using the Swap installer guide. Then, I've added all the suggested ELF files included in the "Recommended apps for Free McBoot " (which includes ESR.ELF).

But now I wonder how exactly I'm supposed to Swap a Video-DVD (and are we talking about just any DVD, even though it's not a DVD-DL?? and will I have to rip the game and patch it? Or is the original game supposed to work now?) using the method you suggested...

Would you be kind enough to tell me, step by step, how to run the game now that I have all these things installed on my memory card?

Get rid off swap-magic and install a chip.
    Much more stable.

Once I get ESR working properly I might not need to use Swap magic anymore!

Trying to get bits of information here and there to get this thing working is already overwhelming! Please feel free to give me some advice, but just not this kind of advice!!
Right now, telling me to give up and opt for a chip is just not very helpfull

I now have installed FMCB 1.8 with the apps from the "Noobie package" (including ESR.ELF)

Which of the 3 files included in the "ESR beta r9a" package should I use ?
Where do I have to put it exactly (in which folder on my usb memory flash)?
And do I have to rename the file?

Here's the content of the package I'm talking about (and with which I'm not sure what to do!):
    - ESR beta r9a dvdv direct off.elf
    - ESR beta r9a dvdv direct.elf
    - ESR beta r9a mcard.elf

I'm only going to ask in one place, Would you please keep your problem in a single thread? spreading it hell west and crooked makes it impossible for people to help you.

    You're right
    Sorry Bootlegninja...

Here's a little update of the situation :

By trying and failing I figured by myself that it's useless to simply try each of the 3 applications in the "ESR beta r9 package". I had to install the whole thing from the beginning and simply rename the file "ESR beta r9a dvdv direct.elf" to ESR.ELF (which is not mentionned anywhere in the text files or even in the tutorials). Also I have added the BOOT.ELF file into mc0:/BOOT/ and not only in the "SWAPMAGIC" folder I had to create in the first place (where the BOOT.ELF file was renamed "SWAPMAGIC.ELF").

With these changes it "almost works".

The problem remaining is still about the way to use ESR, Swap Magic 3.8 and a Video-DVD to run a NTSC version of the game Rock Band 2 (which is a dual layer DVD) on my PAL console.

In other words, what steps should be done, and in which order, to get the game working?!

I know I have to launch ESR, insert Swap Magic, swap the disc to a Video-DVD and then (swap again?!? that doesn't make sens) to run Rock Band 2 ?
Am I supposed to actually see the regular Swap Magic screen? or should everything be done from ESR?

I have searched the forum for people in the same situation, but didn,t find anything... People mostly use ESR to run some previously patched games that simply boot when ESR is chosen in the main menu. But that,s not my case!
    Ps2 Model : SCPH-30004 (PAL)
    Swap Magic 3.8 (PAL)
FMCB 1.8 + Apps from the "Noobie Package"+hdld.svr-0.8.5.ELF
    2 X 8Mo MC
    Seagate Barracuda ST3160023A-RK
    Ps2 network adapter

if you have FMCB in ESR .9b installed, you don't need to do anything else to your installed software.

what you do need to do to get the NTSC Rockband 2 running is:

    1. rip a clean copy with IMGBurn.
    2. Run it through a program called NTSC2PAL. (you may have to adjust hte y offsets.
    3. If you have a fat ps2, a network adapter, and HDL 0.8c installed, use that to test the video signal patched image without burning it. (saves on DL discs ) once you are happy with the results, lets move on.
    4. Run the ESR ISO patcher.
    5. Burn that sucker.
    6. Enjoy it.

Edit - and I use the ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf version. just make sure it's renamed to ESR.ELF

Since Rock Band is Dual-Layer, doesn't it need Toxic Dual-Layer patcher?
