What would you recommend for backing up Ps2 games out of :

    ASUS 1608P2S and 1608P3S
    LG 4167B and H10A
    LITEON 160P6S
    PIONEER 110D
    NEC 3550A
    SONY 30A10
    PHILIPS 1640G
    SAMSUNG S162A

I heard so many different opinions that i really dont know what to get ..
"Get the LG it's good and cheap "
" No,don't get that it will die in an year "
"People say Pionner is the best for Ps2 but mine broke really fast. Now i have an Asus and i'm satisfied " ...
" Asus, anything but that ,this series sucks "
"Get the Nec ..i still have an old cd writer that still hasn't failed till today "
"Get Liteon, all the others use Liteon parts anyway "

    Etc.. Etc
And another one ..bulk or retail ?
I hear that bulk ones have an inferior quality..

I use an NEC 3550A and a few other NEC drives. They're great.

Bulk or retail...same stuff. OEM, etc. - just get the cheapest and get it from a reputable place like NewEgg or ZipZoomFly.

Dude, it doesn't matter. There is no such thing as a "good ps2 burner" - any DVD burner that can burn at 2X/4X and burn the DVD media you want (be it dual layer, +, or -) is just fine.

The more important thing is to buy great media...i.e. Taiyo Yuden TYG02.

I'd say get the latest & greatest NEC. That is only because I have about 4-5 of their drives here and none of them have given me problems. However, any drive will do...Pioneer, Lite-On, etc. etc.

I've had my LG for 2 years now, and it still works like the day I bought it. (Although, it's a little out of date)
The only coasters it has burned were my fault.

I can't say "highly reccomended" but it's certainly not a bad choice, and well worth the money.

it's all about the media and the speed at which you burn it.

well honestly...thier are a few flaws in this thread...Who ever say "all burners are created equal" lied...Also OEM and Retail are not the same...Sometimes the drives look different, have differnt bezels,,, adn most of all sometimes they have differnt firmware...that can not be changed without use of a special usermade fimrware flashing tool...I would recommend a BENQ drive...1650 is great...ITs nothing more then a 1640 (the drive i have that burns a dvd in about 6:15) that has been taken badck to the drawling board and improved upon...Its also the same as a sony DRU 810a...(maybe the wrong model number...) but the sony version has a 110dollar price tag...When it is the same exect drive...just a differnt (shitty) firmwaer is found in the sony version...its like a chevy s10 and a GMC sanoma...
I would recommend the 1650 to anyone...
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827101010
This is the bulk version that comes with a less then AWSOME firmware...so go over to club.cdrfreaks.com and find the retial firmware update and a flashing tool and you will not be sad...REmember this drive cost like 110 bucks ( at least when i got my benq for 45) when it has teh sony name on it...

Now if you want lightscribe you can get the same drive 1650 but it has lightscribe and its called a 1655...

I think it depends on what your question really is: "Will this burner burn disks that work in my PS2?" That answer is prpbably "Yes." because it's much more of an issue of what media you use than what drive you use.

If it's "Will this drive last?" the answer, from my experience, is simply "No." I had a Phillips CD-R die after a year. I had a Liteon DVD-R die after 6 months. I have a LG DVD-ROM where the door doesn't open half the time.

I think one of the by-products of drives being so cheap is that they all suck. If someone can prove me wrong, let me know and I might buy one.
