Just a heads up, I'm not sure if you have any near you, but Be$t Buy is having a sale on a 50 pack of Verbatims for like 18 bucks. They are MCC 03RG20s, so they're not fake ones.

Nice! Thanks for the tip, now I don't have to go to ebay to get a good deal. One last question though(sorry), can I burn a ps2 "cd-rom" based backup to cd-r and still work?(My iso is less than 700mb, a cd image iirc) I have a few Sony cd-r discs left over so I was just curious if esr will boot them. thx
For booting of CD-R backups you will need either a modchip or disc-swapping methods (like SwapMagic etc).
The ESR method only applies to DVD discs since it relies on convincing the CDVD mechacon that the backup game disc is in fact a DVD-Video movie. Such trickery is not possible for CD media, as the mechacon will not even look for a DVD-Video filesystem on such a disc.
Original games from CD may still be possible to play with ESR, but only by converting/rebuilding the ISO for burning to a DVD disc.
And (before you ask), don't even think of converting PS1 games that way as they can never run with ESR.
(The ESR driver and the normal DVD driver both 'die' when the console switches to PS1 mode.)

Some time ago I had some Verbatim Pearl-White 8xCert., which were also manufactured by Tayo Yuden (Group? ^^) [there Media-ID didn´t had this G in the end thought...].
No bad thought, cuz this is even better.
At least from my tests on hundreds of DVD-Writers, I would say these is the best brand, you can get ever (equal for which device. I also tested playing it from very old DVD-Players [~10years, where DVD-R wasn ´t even available or where they were around 50€/100DM.])
From my experience MCC's are the best. TYG's are only good for a very short term. After just a few months the error rate is increasing enormously which makes them not suitable for backups at all. ^_~
I've heard that too, but Verbatim sell many different types of discs, so they can still be consistent for each such type, though some are supplied by another manufacturer. Be that as it may, I've consistently bought the same type of Verbatim discs for a long while now, and they have never let me down so far... (And all I have ID-checked have the manufacturer ID "MCC03RG20".)

In that case you have been very lucky. I had always been buying 50 disc packs until I got those Verbatim TYG's. Because after inquiring in some burning forum I found out that those TYG's are only included in 50 or 100 disc packs (at least so far). So the only way to be on the (rather) safe side is to buy packs containing 25 or less discs.
I'm not too happy about that but I prefer to pay a bit more in order to avoid getting a large amount of low quality media, that I would dispose of right away anyways.
Hmm, now I'm wondering whether Sony brand discs are any good. I've found some pretty good deals on ebay(I know, I know). Also seems I'm going to have to rebuild my iso (my op) since it was a ps2 cd to begin with. Argh, more work....
