I'm looking to mod my PS2 in the near future, but I'm extremely new to the whole scene, so I have a lot of questions to be answered, and I'm sure many of them, if not all, are very simple questions to be answered by anyone who is a regular on this site.

    Here goes:

1)What's considered the best Chip on the market, I have a SCPH-39010, so I assume that limits my choices of a chip. What's the best one overall, and what's the best chip for my system?

2)PS2 games, are they all DVD ROM's, or are some actually CD ROMs?

3)What's the difference between a blue bottom and a clear coated bottom of some PS2 games, I recall with my very first PS2, it wouldn't play the blue-coloured disks after a year or so, it was a launch system.

4)When purchasing a disk to make a back-up copy of your PS2 games, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW would all my correct choices? I would figure DVD-R and DVD+R would be the more efficient choices due to price?

5)I don't think I've ever seen DVD+R and the other variants in stores, I've only noticed CD+R and so on!?

6)What's the general price of DVD+R and DVD+RW compared to DVD-R, DVD-RW, and any of the variants of CD?

7)When making a back-up copy of a PS2 game, can you ever burn it until a CD if the game is small enough in size?

8)What DVD is considered the top-of-the-line, or best brand name for making back-up copies of your PS2 games, and what would it run you, money-wise?

9)What is considered the best utility for burning DVD's currently on the market, and what is considered the best bang for your buck?

10)When buying a DVD burner, I assume some can also burn CD-ROM's as well?

11)When buying a DVD burner, do they all come with programs installed that are permanent with the burner, or can you purchase different programs for that particular device?

12)Is there any use of a DVD player on your PC, other then viewing movies, or is it necessary when making a back-up copy of a DVD movie?

That's all for now, I'm sure many more simple questions that are slipping my mind right now, but if someone could answer a few of my questions, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

    1) Your choices were limited 2 years ago, now they aren't. Messiah 2 and DMS3 are the top chips for your model. (v7 or v8)
    2) Some PS2 games are CD-Roms, the games with a blue bottom.
    3) Blue coloured discs are CDs whilst the others are DVDs. PS2s tend to do that after a certain amount of time.
    4) I don't know much about DVD+R, but DVD-R is known to work.
    5) Eh?
    6) DVDs can be anywhere from $2 to $10, it really varies. CDs are much cheaper.
    7) Yes, you can. Also, if the disc is big, you could downsize FMVs or remove them, as well as limit game audio and movies and such.. Relinking is also possible.
    8) Verbatim, I guess.
    9) Probably Alcohol 120%
    10) Yes.
    11) You can get different programs.
    12) I think it's just viewing movies and for some games for the PC which would use DVD media.

Well, I have a few more repetitive questions, but they are very basic questions.

    Here goes:

1)When buying a DVD burner, if it has DVD-RW, does that necessarily mean it has DVD-R has a compatible media?

2)Why do most people seem to prefer DVD-R over DVD-RW, is there a obviously reason, or just a mere coincidence.

    3)Is DVD-/+RW considered superior to DVD-/+R?

4)If a DVD player, or anything that will read DVD ROM's, does that mean it can read all the variants of DVD's? Including: DVD-R, DVD+R, and etc?

    Thanks
    Phill
