Do I do this test on a blank disc?
You should test the burning-quality, so no...
Usually, it shouldn't be a blank disc.
C1/C2-Errors are write-errors.(...so there couldn't be any on a blank disc... Scratches are also measured as C?-Errors)
Insert your not working ESR-backup and check the error-rate.
did a few tests... everything seems fine..
f-it .. i'll go HDD.. having too many coasters
unless there's a problem using an external usb hdd on a fat v2?
Hm,... Yes, HD is the best solution for playing games (in my&many others opinion).
Can you post the C1-C2-Error-Rate (min./mid./max.), or simply post a picture?
Well, I guess I didn't do enough testing after all. It seems that, using nero's disc speed, my burner can't do the c1/c2 test.
I have tried using alcohol 120% using different media and speeds with no success.
At least I got myself a HDD enclosure and running my games using USBAdvance, but let's just say playing Final Fantasy X ain't as fun when all the cut-scenes lag like the dickens.
Is it just possible that my fat ps2 ver.2 just can't read burned media? I mean, even using the browser I can't seem to read the disc...
ps: or could it be that I ain't got a shit hot burner, and that's the problem...

Of course that could also cause problems. The PS2 laser can only attempt to read what the burner placed on the disc. Or rather, the changes the burner caused to the photosensitive layer.
If the laser of the burner is aged, dirty, misaligned or unfocused, or the burner simply has an obsolete/incorrect internal disc media database, this can cause a lower quality burn even on top quality media. And even a PS2/PStwo with laser in perfect condition may then have problems reading such a disc.
If you can try using a known good burner owned by some friend or family member, that could clarify your situation.

Hi, I am using NERO 7 Essential, windows vista business with service pack 1.
It creates the backup of my disc with no errors recorded, but when I try playing that disc it comes up with th red screen informing me to insert a ps2 disc format disc.
I did a disc copy at a writing speed of 4x.
If I make a backup of a backup disc that does work on the ps2, then my copy would work.
It only does not work if I try making a back up from an original disc.
Please help.
try to use IMGBURN at mid speed on a good quality media
What you said is a bit confusing, as you seem to contradict yourself.
Nero is not to my knowledge capable of dealing correctly with either PS1 or PS2 backups. It can correctly burn already existing backup files to a new disc, but it can not reliably generate proper ISO files from the original disc. For that purpose you need other software, such as "DVD Decrypter" or ImgBurn. Those two are really different generations of the same project, but while ImgBurn is newer it also lacks some features that "DVD Decrypter" has, making the older program slightly better for making backup images. (The difference mainly applies to DVD-Video though)
This is normally OK, though the recommended speed (unless otherwise noted by the manufacturer) is half of the maximum media speed that the disc is certified for.I did a disc copy at a writing speed of 4x.
Would it ? How do you know ? This is where you contradict yourself, as you already implied that it doesn't work for you, which is probably due to incorrect tools. If I make a backup of a backup disc that does work on the ps2, then my copy would work.
This makes absolutely no sense, if you are using exactly the same methods for both cases, starting by using a working disc (backup or original) and then making an ISO file from it to use in burning a new backup. It only does not work if I try making a back up from an original disc.
It would be different if you started with an old ISO for the backup to backup copying, as that ISO was probably produced by a different method than your current one.
Standard procedure for ALL normal backup problems is to go back to the pressed original and make an ISO from it using either ImgBurn or "DVD Decrypter", and then burn this ISO file to a DVD-R using ImgBurn.
Nero and most other common CDVD tools can not be relied on to make working ISO files for PS2 games, and some of them may even fail to burn such files correctly.
For ripping images of DVD games I always use "DVD Decrypter"
For burning DVD games I always use ImgBurn
For handling CD games I always use "Alcohol 120%"
(both PS1 & PS2, both ripping & burning)
