Need for Speed Underground question for all

Hi all, my question is:

I have a DMS3 modded PS2, a few of my friends use the PS2 Slide card method. We all have a DVD-R copy of Need for Speed Underground. If you've played the game, I think you'll know that 2 different profiles (memory cards) cant be loaded on the same split screen race on 1 machine. So would it be possible to somehow create a direct link between the two consoles, maybe via i-link, or a crossover cable, to simulate an online game? We want to be able to race or custom cars against each other, but I dont think we'd be able to go online to do it. Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section of the forum. but any help i could would definately be appreciated.
