Download Prassi Primo and the CloneCD 30 Day Trial from the Downloads Section. Follow the Tutorials in the Tutorials Section.
CloneCD for all CD games, Primo for all DVD games up to 4.37 GB.
Purchase a license to CloneCD if it works well with your drive, or you can check the compatability list in advance here:
You may need to update the Px Engine for Primo for it to be compatible with you DVD Burner. Get the latest from Veritas.com here:
There were some early issues with the Pioneer 105 drives, but may be resolved by now. If not, the newer remade retail version does support the 105 with the Px Updated. It's called Record Now Max, and can be found just about everywhere, or can be purchased and downloaded at Veritas.com.
Use Quality Media and all should work fine. Don't worry about patching--that mostly applies to non-swap chips. There are some that may still need patching (EA Sports titles for example). If so, it is speculated the patches may work on the CloneCD images, but they are designed for ISO Images. You can create these images and burn them with CDRWIN. You can follow the links at the psxcopyworld site for a free downlaod of the trial version and a tutorial on that proggie, as well as the patching tools and such. The trial version is indefinite, but has limited drive support and only burns at 1X.
The SwapMagic discs will boot your backups fine with one exception. The DVD SwapDisc is only 4.35GB in size. This will cause some potential problems with games over 4.35GB (DMC, DMC2, etc.). They may boot and play fine, but eventually you will reach a point where data needs to be accessed beyond the reserved memory address space for 4.35GB, and the game will lockup. This probably won't happen until a final video sequence, credits, or something insignificant to the actual playing of the game, depends on how the game is layed out on the disk. The only work around is to boot with a Gameshark or Action Replay and "Double Swap". Using a normal eject, load a pressed PS2 DVD larger than your backup during the GS2/AR2 Main Menu screen. Load a Gamecheat and activate then deactivate it (you can create a dummy cheat for this, it doesn't matter what it is--you just need to make a change somewhere on a cheat). Once the DVD has had time to spin up and load it's Table of Contents, choose to "Start game with codes" and press "X" to start the game. You will get an "Updating Cheat Codes" screen. During this time, the drive is spun down--allowing you to swap in the Backup copy you want to play. You only have about 35 seconds to get the swap in, so don't wait too long to get the drive ejected.
If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.
