My ps2 Media Hell Expert help required
My ps2 Media Hell Expert help required –

Hi there Guys, ive been backing up ps2 games now for a while and have recently Hit a brick wall of problems.
First of all my ps2 Runs all official games ( i have over 100 origionals) on cd ,dvd and dvd movies 100% perfectly.
Now i have been backing up ps2 games on TDK disks with ID lead in code TTG02 for about a year now 100% succesfully on over 100 titles. However TDK 8x-r's are now using the lead in Code TTH01 and these are chruning out terrible skipping Copy's that are barely playable.
SO i started my search for a new Media, firstly i tryed Maxell 8x dvd-r made in japan.. same thing choppy skippy crap.
Next i tryed Sony (acucore)dvd-r 8x Id code
SONY08D1) Id code yep skippy crap
my next attempt, the 16x TDk's (TTH02) no shock here skipVille
So finnaly after wasting a fair bit of cash on all these disks i decided to stop pussyfooting about and go for Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd+r (YUDEN000-T02-00) and much to my amazment even the Mighty Yudens are giving me skippy unplayable crap.
so im starting to think it strange that all these high quality medias are giving me so much problems. i have tryed backing up my old TTG02 working backups onto the new medias and same problem. so its not the ISO's
MY dvd Burner is a new (Lite on SOHW 1693S 16x dvd+/- DL) with latest firmware and it burns all movies perfectly and tested it on my last remaining TTG02 and it worked fine so its not the burner.
I have defraged my PC made sure nothing else was running. used DVD decrypter, Alchohol 120%, nero at speeds 1-8x in booktyp DVD-ROM and normal. and they all prduce the same outcome.
I have opened up my PS2 and cleaned the lense. no luck.
So im pretty stumped at this point i have now wasted about 100 pounds
(180 dollars) on Disks and i cant really afford to keep buying different kinds of media hoping my ps2 finnaly settles down and accepts one of them. does anyone have any ideas?
My Ps2 is model Number SCPH-50003 Silver PAL UK
Boot method: swap magic 3.6 slide tool
Thanks in advance

Here is some basic troubleshooting stuff...
1) What have you changed since the problems started occurring? Retrace those steps...undo them one at a time...(if any changes made)
2) Do all of your "old" backups play fine now?
If no...bad laser? Other PS2 problem?
If yes...back to #1
Doesn't make sense that ALL of that media would be crap. Has to be your burner or your PS2.

well my old copy's still work fine and the burner still pruduces flawless copy's on TTG02 disks (the kind i cant find any more) so its not the burner.. so my Ps2 must be just really picky. its kinda stressing me out tho ive spent so much money trying to find disks. ive heard recalibrating the ps2 laser may help but i had a look at the steps required and im not really confident enough to do it myself.

Tried the skipping games on another PS2?
Easiest, likely most expensive solution...buy a Pioneer burner and Ritek or Ridata blanks. Best combo out there....maybe NEC as well.
I'm talking from experience with Liteon drives and almost every media under the sun...scanned for PO/PI errors.

You gotta be kidding me. You do scans and still recommend Ritek media. Ritek is one of the WORST medias to get now. Even though Pioneer gets along well with Ritek it still doesn't fix their severe quality control issues as of late. They used to produce some pretty decent discs, now ever since the G05 they are subject to rapid deterioration. So while they initially scan good, a number of them become unreadable after a year. @the original post did you set the booktype to DVD-ROM before burning? This might help out a bit. Honestly though I believe it is either a laser in bad need of a cleaning or a laser that is failing if it won't even read TY media.

i was told that the Taiyo Yudens i bought are one of the best media's you can buy and they should work no probs. they are + tho so i may try the -.. if not sod it ill Buy a new ps2.. because my mums ps2 runs all these disks no probs so My lense must be needing recalibrated slightly, its strange it plays all the origionals fine. but i read that some Ps2's laser's are calibrated a little less than there proper power so the laser lasts longer, and this only realy manifests itself when trying to play certain backups, this would explain why my mothers black ps2 runs more media than mine despite my ps2 not being damaged or worn in any way (its barely a year old) and adjusting the pits can fix it. im not confident enough to do it myself tho.. so new ps2 i think is the way to go.

I concur. TY is a great way to test such things. If it doesn't read TY it's high time to get rid of the machine as the laser is starting to die. BTW it isn't uncommon for failing lasers to read factory pressed discs just fine but won't read any recordables at all. Could also be your modchip/modmethod. However, given the results it really does sound like a laser issue.
