  1. #1 My PS2 has stopped reading dvd backups

I've got a v3 with DMS3 v1. My ps2 has worked flawlessly until just recently. I heard that ps2 v3 should not be abe to read dvd+r and I got curious. So I bought a dvd+r disc and burned a game just to test and it worked. Then my dvd-r discs suddenly stopped working. I tried to adjust my laser and I got my dvd-r discs to work again. However, after I tested the dvd+r disc again my dvd-r once again stopped working. My question is this: is it possible that dvd+r discs can screw up the laser so it stops reading dvd-r discs? Or is it just a coinsidence and its only my ps2 that's screwy? Thankful for any advise.

Your laser is pretty much dead. Time for a new one or a new ps2 all together. And stay away from +r.

Old versions, v1-v4, tend to not like +r. Best to stick with -r. v5 and up shouldn't be a prob.

Have you tried cold-booting instead of warm booting? This is an old tactic for resetting the drive components that hang after media changes for various devices. I've seen this problem mostly with the cheaper set-top DVD Players, but it may apply to the PS2 as well. Just a thought....

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.

Thank you for your answers. What is cold-booting and warm-booting? What is the difference?

warm booting is hitting reset, cold booting is turning the ps2 off and turning it back on again.

About 2,5 years now. But I didn't play that much during the first year since there weren't that many good games released in the beginning.
Since my last post I've gotten my Riteks to work and most of my Princos. It takes a couple of times before they boot though but at least they are working. Before this happened all my DVD-r always booted at the first try.
