My dvd-r and dvd boots up fine but freezes on the black screen everytime. It happens when I use the game shark. Original games work fine without it and cdrs' work fine with the it.

    I have:
    v4 ps2
    nova chip
    Game Shark 2.0
    Used a Memorex dvd-r
    pioneer burner.

Media plays a critical role and Memorex DVD-Rs are known to be hit or miss with some machines. I'd suggest trying another burn at 2x with a Verbatim, Pioneer, TDK, or Apple and see how it goes. Using a Blaze cleaning disc is also a very good suggestion, as it doesn't take much in the way of dust, pet dander, cigarette smoke, etc to mess up the laser beam...

Uh... maybe because it's an RPG and it'd be nice to have an infinite amount of money to buy the stuff you need like weapons and supplies without spending 20 hours in mindless battles just to work up the cash...?

nmnguy - clean the laser with a Blaze disk a few times and/or clean the DVD.

BTW, are you SURE you have the codes entered correctly...? A game won't start if you've accidently modified the wrong area of code...

I've used the blazing cleaner and yes i confess, i was cheating. Its not the wrong code, because i've tried it without codes to see if it works. Maybe its the chip thats at fault.

Havent got that game so cant be sure but is it possilbe that it checks for the cart and refuses to boot, try removing the cart and then booting.

With DVD-R copies the main reason for booting after swap and then going to a black screen is that the boot disk does not have a larger TOC size than the copy (bad media either doesnt boot to black screen in first place or badly skips video sequences).

For DVD-R booting you really need Dead or Alive, Metal Gear Solid or GTA III as these games are really big and therefore will boot must things, and as a bonus most of these are now old enough to be cheap second hand.
