Mod Chip?

Do i have to have a MOD chip to play my PS2 game backups if i backed them up with a DVD-R?

Technically no. You could always buy a piece of shit slide card or fliptop to use with swap magic discs. You can get a real mod for $20 now so these option are extremely stupid to use.

what is so bad about the fliptop/swap magic disks??

Certain games won't work with the flip top, and you have to go to the trouble of swapping discs everytime you want to play, which is more annoying than you may think. Also, the slide cards can sometimes damage the DVD drive.

what modchip people reccomend depends on your version of ps2.

no, chips if installed properly wont damage your ps2.

and there's a dozen threads on this forum about finding out what version ps2 you have. do a search, the information is there.
