What would be the proper way to combine the two Metal Gear CDs into one DVD ... ? Is this even possible? I'd like to not have to burn two DVDs for ESR.

If you're trying to combine PS1 CD's for use with ESR, you're wasting your time because you can't play PS1 games on it.

Oh really? I didn't know that... hmmm... not even if the PS1 game is burned on DVD and patched, eh?

So I guess the only way with Free McBoot is through HDLoader, hey?

No. No PS1 game will boot with HDL. Search around for the PS1 FAQ. Seeing how you're asking the same questions everyone else asks.

Sorry... I did a pretty thorough search through the forums for an answer... I guess I didn't know that I was looking for whether or not PSX games could be played. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings...

No feelings hurt. We just don't like repeating ourselves when a question gets asked at least 3 times a week. It's a simple matter of there's a lot of people who don't read enough. I'm glad you're doing research, just making sure you're looking in the right places so others who have the same question will know where to look next time.

This is why we consider it a Frequently Asked Question.

I remember reading somewhere that some people are working on a program that'll allow the use of PS1 backups on a PS2. Hopefully the project is still alive.

The project you refer to is PS2PSXe by ffgriever, for which I have been one of the beta testers.

While not officially 'dead', the project has lain dormant for a very long time now, as ffgriever has been very busy with other things, including such PS2 projects as the CDVD backup system ESR and the english translation of "Final Fantasy 12 International with Zodiac Job System". (Both projects available in the ESR subforum of the Homebrew/Dev forum here at psx-scene).

I myself certainly hope that ffgriever will take up work on the PS2PSXe project again, and bring it to some releasable state, but there is no telling when or even if he will have both time and inclination to do so. (And whatever you do, please don't try to nag him about it.)

    Best regards: dlanor
