Im shopping for DVD-Rs and from what i find here, ridata and fuji seem to be good dvds what about verbatim or other brands? Im not being cheap the fujis are less money then the verbatims but if the verbs are better ill spend more.
and what do the numbers mean on the different ridata cds like g04, g05 etc

None of those are the best media. Other than Ritek none of those companies manufacture their own discs. They are all outsourced. Taiyo Yuden is the best quality manufacturer HANDS DOWN. They have been the most consistant with quality and integrity throughout the years (proof from their CD-Rs and their DVDRs so far). Anyways, if you buy Fujifilm discs that say MADE IN JAPAN, you will actually be getting Taiyo Yuden. Taiyo Yuden produces all of the MIJ Fujifilm discs. Just check the spindle (usually below the UPC symbol) and it will say where the discs were made. However, it should be noted that since the discs are outsourced, that they are subject to more handling, less care in storage. The best route to go is to buy Taiyo Yuden's own unbranded discs. Verbatim aren't too bad (produced by Mitsubishi Chemicals), however as of late they have been using CMC Magnetics and Prodisc to produce their discs even though they are still using dyes that are produced by Mitsubishi Chemicals. Verbatims made in Singapour (True MCC) are excellent discs. They have very strict quality standards in their production. The next on the list would be Prodisc. Out of the Taiwanese produced Verbatim discs, these are the best. Last comes CMC Magnetics. They are also produced in Taiwan but their quality is less consistant than the two listed above.

Anyway Fuji has its own dye, Fujifilm02 and Fujifilm03 both belong to Fuji. Their quality though varies from writer to writer, to be honest Fujifilm02 has been a better one in my opinion. Of course they are far from TY.

Yup, I forgot to mention that Fuji do use their own dye on some batches, however the vast majority of their media is produced by Taiyo Yuden (Japan) and Prodisc (Taiwan).

Exactly, unfortunatelly their own dye cannot compete with TY. I do not have to mention that much about Prodisc, hehe.

Yes the old 1x rated blue top Fuji's were Ritek G02 as I can remember. They were EXCELLENT media, the speed rating was 1x, most writers wrote them at 2x though. There are some PS2's around that refuse reading DVD media except these.
