Hi, I have been lurking here for some time trying to get as much information as i possibly could before i bothered anybody with my questions.

I have a brand new PS2 V7, fresh out of the box, with a Magic 3 installed professionally by an installer in my area. While at his location we tested to make sure it worked with backups... which it did. I brought it home and hooked everything up. Originals play with no problem. I made my first backup (of an original CD game I own) and burned it, following step by step tutorials i've found.

I cannot get the backups to boot regardless of what program i use. I have used CDRWIN, Nero, and Fireburner. I continuously make coasters and get the red screen. In Nero, i select File > Burn Image > select my cue file, write, finalize, 2x. it says mode2/xa. The burn completes successfully, but will not boot. In CDRWIN, i used the extract option and selected to build and record iso9660 image reading raw using mode2/xa, finalize, etc. the burn is successful but still red screens.

Just for testing, i downloaded a game from the newsgroups and tried burning the bin/cue using both nero and cdrwin (speed 1x). same problem. I've also tried using a bin2iso converter with no help there. I checked Goldenhawks compatability list and both of my burners are listed as being compatable. I have also followed the tutorial "burning ps2 for dummies" from megagames.com as well as many others.

I am at a total loss. I watched the installer do the job and i know he did a good job, not to mention the successful tests we did at his location. Also, if i press and hold the reset till the blue light comes on, the original playstation logo shows up, which indicates to me that the chip is functioning. Also has no problems playing DVD's. Also, if i browse the CD in my computer i see the file list and compare it to the original they are the same. I also checked to make sure both my burners have the most up to date firmware. In case anyone wants to know i have a Toshiba SD-R2002 CDRW/DVD and a LG Electronics CED-8080b CD-R/RW. I am using current versions of all software. Please help.

thanks to anyone who can help me... i have enough coasters to fill everyones christmas stockings. hehe.

What are you trying to boot? CD-r backups correct? From what you have described, it sounds as if you need to have your CD pots (professionally) adjusted. It is reading DVD- r backups just fine, but CD-r backups are no jive. I remember LOD having an issue with the V7 console when it first came out and Charlie_PS2 mentioned something about the specs of the adjustment of the laser (by the factory) on the new V7s. I would reccomend you take a couple of copies of your CD-r backups to your installer to see if HE can get them to work on his console before you have to crack open the PS2 to do any sort of laser adjustments.

P.S. Charlies advice is offered at anyone elses risk except for his.
I love me... And I think everyone should...

Thanks, it booted his CD r and dvd -r backups with no problem. And he has suggested bringing the unit back to him with some of my "coasters"... so i guess i'll have to go from there.
