Ok just sharing what i have found out so far.
I have a ver 7 ps2 and have a magic 3 mod chip installed.
I have the sony Dru-500a dvd burner.
I went off to staples and got 3 pack of memerix dvd-r's (12 dollers
I used Record Max 4.5 and they worked with no problem at all. Burned them at 2X.
I also bought a 25 pack of ML DVDR 4.7 (White Top): 25 dollers from cdrdvdrmedia.com. Burned 3 none worked. Now i then used Nero ver 5.5.9.14. Burned them at 1x (all the faster they would burn) Working great 3/3 since then.
I also bought a 25 pack of ACU DVDR 4.7 silver tops and Record Max 4.5 failed on them as well so i used nero and wouldent you know it they worked again with nero. They burned at 2X.
The other great thing about nero is it will adjust the burn speed for the type of dvd you are useing. It would always pick 4x for me and when it went to burn would switch it to 1x or 2x depending on the dvd-r that was in there. Also did all these at Read speed max. I got some tdk and verbaitums on the way am going to test them out as well and will let you guys know. Thanks again for all the help on this site thought i would share what i have found out mabey it will help some one out

FYI: I burn the ML white tops on a Pioneer A03, firmware v1.80 with PrimoDVD v2.0 and the 3.40 Px Engine update at 2x all the time with absolutely no problem.
Perhaps you might want to check this site for the lastest firmware update for your DRU500A.

I have downloaded the latest firmware from sony which makes it 4x burn. I can not use PrimoDVD will not reconize the burner at all have tryed it over and over and even did the 3.40 px engine update but i am not sure it is takeing. I have to do a rebuild on my pc as it is. So when i do that i will keep trying with Primo Dvd wondering if anyone else has used Primo dvd with the sony Dru500a? i have had no luck with it. I keep hearing Primo is the best to use but atlast i can not use it at the moment.

PrimoDVD does NOT support the Sony DRU500A (nor the Pioneer A04/104, A05/105, and newer HP and Phillips DVD+R drives.)
The Sony should have shipped with RecordNow v4.5, which has the drivers that support all of the above. RecordNow is basically the same app as PrimoDVD with cosmetic GUI changes. Otherwise it has the same Px burning engine at its heart and uses the same Px Engine updates.
Try reading the "news" or visit www.stompinc.com for a trial version.

works great with my A04/104. 11 dvd burns all work perfectly (not all were ps2 games, some were dvd movies, some were data dvds)

Primo was working good on my 104 until a few days ago, burned 60 games at 2x no probs. Now if burn at 2x get error mess. in the 'initilising disk' part at start of recording process.this happens
with primo or recordnow max, witch I tried to see if it would fix the problem.(it was the trail ver.)My primo ver.is 2.0.749.I tried px engine 336 and 348(the newest one), and tried verbs. and maxell dvd-r.Testing phase works but error when starts recording. But it will record at 1x.Media is 2x cert.
Sent my error mess. to RNM and the say its buffer underrun. On top of all that my v5 w\magic2 dont work any more, what a x-m
as!
btw my dvr-104 has fmw 1.40

A Buffer Underrun error means that data isn't making it to cache buffer on the 104 before it's empty. If things were fine before, have you installed another app recently that utilitzes cache memory or may have changed or over ridden the amount of memory cache allocated?
In PrimoDVD, go into Tools | Options | Advanced
Do you have enough main memory cache buffer set up? (I have 384MB in my burning machine and 512 buffers set just to be safe. Allot whatever extra you can safely spare to the buffers.)
Did this start around the time you flashed the 104 firmware from 1.33 to 1.40? Have you tried downgrading back to 1.33?
You're also aware that IDE devices are very CPU intensive and when you burn, it should be the only thing your machine is doing during that time, correct?
That's about all I can think of for the moment...

Balto, I fashed the fmw to see if it would fix the prob.I was at 1.20.The prob seemed to start when I tried to use the trail ver. of RNM and updated Primo to the new px engine, I did both the same day.Have not added any new hardware.
Primo buffer set at 512.Also when I burn I dont use any other prog. Thanks Balto

Lunar, try defragmenting your hard drive, or if that doesn't help and you still can't get it going you could save all your recent things in my docs and do a "system restore" to the day right before the problem appeared..
