I don't think you had to close this topic, since now we are on the subject of what people are using modchips for, nothing illegal going on.
Mr. "Guchi", please don't speak to me like I an only an amateur in these forums, I was with the ps2modchips.com forum for quite a while and have been around the block, and the reason why I came here was after it was shut down was because it seemed the closest alternative to the forums.
Whether you agree with my opinions or not, that's ok, and I fully and whole-heartedly respect that. If you are using your modchip solely to play imports and backups of games, then I admire your respect to the game developers as well.

But I am also entitled to my opinion. The fact of the matter is I don't just "THINK" I know that most people use modchips to illegally play backups of games they own. I "KNOW" it for a fact. Why do you think Sony and Microsoft is so desperate to shut down these modchip sites? It's not because people are playing Jap imports on their US consoles, or vice versa, that's for certain. I doubt Sony is sitting around saying,"Oh No! They are backing up games they already PAID for!" Of couse not! They are attacking these companies legally because even though the products they are selling are intended to play imports, most people are not just using them for that. They are going around town burning everyone else's games, renting games and burning them from Blockbuster, stealing money from them, playing games that aren't rightfully theirs. And while I never said that it was right, and while I never said I liked the idea of burning ISO's of games that hard earned developers worked many long hours making, I am telling you that it happens. And I bet most people on this forum would agree with me, regardless.

Sorry for making such a long post, and I don't want to come off as rude and conceded, just sharing my ideas, I thought that's what a "forum" was all about, you all can think what you like. As they say,"I'm only a messenger." Thanks!

To avoid contraversy, maybe the thread should be called 'Moral issues of Modchips'.

I think discussing that would be more appropriate. But once you start posting and requesting ftp's it breaks the boundaries. There's terms and conditions of usage we agreed to when we registered.

    Diplomatic,
    El

Just to ad, here in Australia a precedence has been set by where content of a website is within the jurisdiction of where it's read rather then where it is hosted. So if i got caught with dled iso's, and when asked i said 'ohh i got them from this website', ps2newz could stand for trial here in Aus.

PS2 news is a very 'free' forum, but they're right in setting the boundaries to where they begin to become liable.

I disagree with getting ISO's from anywhere, I believe it robs the game developers that work hard to make a game. I was just saying that the way modchips are used by most people are no better than downloading ISO's from the Internet.
Hehe, moral issues of modchips, sounds like a civil rights movement or something

You have been around for a while and u still have to ask this question? i think u should be telling us where to get ISOs.
that u find this place the closest to some other forum is a nice compliment. this place is a home to a lot of people like u.

i think many guys wouldve responded to ur first post itself, but then u sounded like it was ur right to KNOW how we get games and not the right to POST a free and fair idea.

just because we are stealing doesnt mean we are OBLIGATED to tell every other thief how we do it.

besides all this logic, just a few days back we had a survey of something like this,,,how we get games etc.
i think most people got it via Newsgroups,IRC etc etc. u can do a quick search on this.

oh yeah some cited LEGIT backups as the only source of getting their games. and nbody questioned their ligitimacy.

    welcome to ps2newz

Arrrrrrrr, if'n ya ask me, I think it's none of anybody's business what we do or don't do with our modchips. Trumpet got blasted cuz he broke a rule about askin where to get games. In me humble opinion, he's lucky he didn't get suspended from the forum or whatever, so he is! I may be a scurvey dog at times, but I always respects the rules of me host...if the host says "Don't do this..." then DON'T DO IT!!! I don't thinks that be too hard ta understand...does anybody else? I have no heart for those that don't bother to take the time to read the rules/regulations and abide by them...for 'tis scallywags like that, that will destroy it for the rest of us that do.

Rule breakers should be made ta walk the plank! Arrrrrrrrr

well, I guess you didn't read the fact that I didn't post first asking for ISO's, that was somebody else. And as for asking the question, I believe I am free to ask any question so long as it agrees with the rules and regulations of this forum, regardless of my seniority, or where I came from, I think it is a question that always comes up, just that few have the guts to address it. I never asked for ISO's, and I disagree with ripping off people who worked on these games just as much as the guy next to me, and even if I wanted to, I have 56K, kinda hard to download much of anything with it. I'm sorry if I offended anybody, I was simply voicing my opinion and a few fateful facts on modchips. If that is a crime, then I am guilty, suspend my account or ban my IP or whatever. But I believe that it isn't. I'd really like to stay and help out on this forum, as I helped out for about the 5 months on the ps2modchips.com forum. Please give me a chance, thanks!

Opinions are like assholes and elbows - - everybody has one.

Just relax and chill out, eh? No one is going to give you the boot (unless you continue to get on Mr. Guichi's nerves...)
