My system is a V4 with a Matrix Infinity.
I'm getting the 'Insert playstation disk' message when I put in backups. What exactly does this message mean?:confused:
If I see this message, does it mean that the PS2 can read the disk?
I used DVD Decryptor, and just did an ISO read and ISO write. Media is good quality, Sony+r 8x, burnt at 4x.
The Matrix splash screen comes on, and I can play CD-R music disks, so I think the chip is working ok. I'm using DVD Decryptor to read and write the disk.
it sounds like you have a homebrew matrix.
you need to update the firmware before it will read backups

Any way to tell the difference? When I load a non-backed up game, I do get the little v1.68 text under the Playstation logo.
could be laser, you might also try - r media
looks to be bigger probs. Tried to flash to 1.75, and still get the insert disk screen.

did it flash or it wouldnt read the flash disc, if it wouldnt read the flash disc, put flash disc in and turn off now hold reset for 2-3 seconds to turn on and it should boot flash disc

It wouldn't read the disk. I tried your trick, and got the white screen with the msg to upgrade to v1.75. I pressed X to start, and it is just sitting at the white screen - waited for 5 minutes, then shut it off.
After that, the chip seems to be disabled. No splash screen or anything. I've started flashing it again - should it take longer than that?
it should flash in about 15 seconds, try burning another firmware disc, burn it slow and burn it on good media and try again the same way, even try burning a lower firmware like 1.36 with infinity manager included, this way it will install infinity manager on mem card and then you can enter infinmanager by holding triangle when you boot should you have any further firmware problems

found part of the problem - bad solder joint on the gnd wire. Fixed that, and was able to flash to 1.75.
now I know what the fw is, and the splash screen is coming up at startup. But still getting the 'insert playstation disk' message.
