  1. #1 HELP! Problems booton dvdr's with Neo3 2.2
    m17 Guest
Hopefully the most intelligent ps2 modifiers on the net from ps2newz could help me with this one

My neo3 2.2 works fine for booting cd-r games and rips... But it just won't boot any dvdrs... I've tried Both + and - r DVDs. Yes DVD movies work on my ps2 just not game backups. My burning procedures are correct because my backups work on other modded ps2's... I have an SCPH-30001 model and a gameshark2 v 2.0.

The boot method for my ps2 cd-rs is.

    1. insert gs2 into the ps2
    2. power off the ps2 for 5 seconds
    3. turn it on and hold the reset button until you reach the gs2 menu.
    4. replace the gs2 disc with ps2 backup.
    5. with or without codes
    6. press x

Past solutions that didn't work for me

I've been told to use the ea method but that's a problem because my tray will not open automatically when i release the reset button.

I've been told to check the wiring but... the wiring is fine it is installed properly.

Any other solutions i can try?

Ok, first off, if your tray wont eject automatically then you are not going to be able to boot dvdrs. besides that, your steps are a little off.. (not sure what a neo3 2.2 is, but i know this is what you do for a neo 2.2)

    1. insert gs2 into the ps2, (must be a gs2 v2 or lower, depending on your system)
    2. after the gs2 boots, hit the eject button and replace with an ORIGINAL dvd game. this is where you need to use the EA method. try using the eject button to close the tray and hold it down until the next step.
    3. navigate to the screen where you are asked to "press x" to start the game. let go of the eject button and the tray should pop out, without the disc spinning. swap with your dvdr and it should close automatically. hit the x button to start the game. depending on the version of gs2 you have, you may also need to hold down r1 when you hit x.

your original dvd game must have a greater TOC than the one you are trying to boot or else it will not work or freeze at some point.

If the above routine manages to eject the tray for the second swap and the disc is still spinning, you got one of the newer v2 GS2's that needs a different method to stop the spindle. You can load a mock code and toggle a cheat on and then off. Select to boot "With Codes" and press X to start. You will get an "Updating Codes" screen. This typically stops the spindle for about 35-40 seconds on these updated v2.x GS2's. Immediately let go of the reset button to get the tray to open, swap it in and it should boot.

    Good Luck!

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it! But, hell if you can tweak that bastard just a little bit more....hehehe.
