No matter what anyone says, DVD-R is the way to go. It's more compatible that +R will ever be. That drive is a +R drive. I would recommend the Pioneer A05 (or one of the rebags). The Cendyne rebagged Pioneer A05 is only like $229 nowadays.
Heck on pricewatch.com the A05 is down to $190 with shipping.
You could get a CenDyne drive which is essentially a pioneer dvd-r drive for around $168 dollars on the net. I think Staples sometimes has this drive on sale as well as bestbuy.
thnx for the replys
but are there any CANADIAN sites, i can be refered to.
Preferably ones that i can go to in real life (for example: future shop, staples etc....)
thnx
-R drives are the way to go for PS2 backups--not to mention movies if you have an older DVD Player. Not to mention you can grab the media fairly cheap in quantity on-line as well. Just search around for the Pioneer or Cendyne burners. I would suggest starting at www.pricewatch.com and searching by the Pioneer namebrand then model number (they only have listings for the +R Cendyne's right now, at $300 US). They give you an estimated shipping cost with each listing so you can see in a glance the total cost. The A04/104's (up to 2X DVD-R) are great drives and can be grabbed easily for around $170 in the US, the A05/105 (Up to 4X DVD-R) can be nabbed for around the $190 US mark. Not sure about the prices with shipping "au Canada"--but if you can contact the seller and arrange a Global Priority Mail shipping, it can sometimes be more reasonable then UPS or FedEx charges.
Good Luck!
Raist
