Help. Burning PS2 Backups, which Speed
Help. Burning PS2 Backups, which Speed –

Pls someone shed some light on this topic.
I have a PS2 pal v 3 with messiah 2.
I been trying to back up games in the last two days, but with mixed results, most being bad.
I've been using RecordNowMax and Nero 6 on my Pioneer A06, media Ritek G04, two types, the printable white top and Traxdata 4xspeed.
Okay most tutorials say burn image at min speed. So that's what I've been doing, but only managed 2 from 7 games to work flawlessly. The others don't work to well at all in my machine, you know they just spin and come with a disc error, have to load about 5 to 6 times, if I'm lucky.
Yesterday I burnt a game at speed 2x and it work okay, there was a couple of stutters, but it loaded in the PS2.
Okay the obvious is that my laser is bad, but I can play others copies that I have got from other people, no problem, they play like original's. The media, well I thought Ritek is suppose to be the best for PS2 backups, plus as I said I have managed, two to work very well.
So it must be my methods, either program or burning speed. Should I be using another program or burn even at 4x speed
Pls someone out there with more knowledge on this subject HELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!
Cheers in advance

Were the two games that worked small ones by any chance ?
DVD-R is weird in that the smaller the disc is, the more dependable the write will be. If you burn a DVD Video to the full capacity of the disc, the chances of it displaying read errors in a Standalone player are considerably higher.
The same can be said for PS2 discs. The larger the TOC, the more likely you are to have problems.
Why the **** would I want a Caravan that's got no ****in' Wheels ?

The games which work were, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Maximo 2.
The Final Fantasy I quite big, as DVD games, not sure on Maximo. But some games which dont work are smaller than the above, so not sure if thats the problem?

Don't know about that. The ONLY time I've had that happen is when I went through a phase of using shitty Princo's (/me bows his head down in shame) for movies. Since I've been using Ritek G04's or Verbatim DVD-R's, I have had absolutely NO issues of read errors.
You make it sound like the entire -R standard has this fault. I would say it lies more with cheap and nasty media, than it does with the actual standard itself.
Again this is only my opinion and experience, so it might mean squat to everyone else!

Yahoo!!! Yesterday burned 3 games at 4x speed using RecordNow Max v4.50, on my Ritek G04 printables. Its all good, they worked liked a charm, seem's I need to burn at max speed on those disks, but I will still read to HD at min speed.
I've got DVD Decrypter, but use for movies, anyway hopefully now my problem is solved.
Cheers for all help

To read to the HDD at min speed is useless. It does not affect anything. Except if you have a bad quality original and your DVD-ROM/writer can't read that at full speed.

Agree with Stephen... As long as your original is in good condition, read at full speed... Glad things now work for you...
