Let's say - the new Burnout 3. It's hard to disagree that the soundtrack couldn't be better. Even if you like the kind of music used, it seems very one sided and unvaried. So I thought, would it be possible to just rip the game, extract all the files, replace the music files with the appropriately compressed music of my own, and burn a copy that would play that new music?

Does anyone know what format EA games uses for their EA trax music? Would it be possible to at least swap music files from their other games, such as SSX Tricky or SSX3 and use that music in Burnout 3?

Has anyone ever tried doing something like this?

i read a guide that explained how to put new sound tracks in a PSX game so why not PS2? the guide said it needed to have many tracks though like a racing or fighting game or it wont work right for obvious reasons.

That's probably because these were PSX game with CDDA audio which is like a normal CD Audio session found on music CD. To do this on a PS2 game, you would need to decompress the sound pack, relace the song with your new oen and repack everything correctly and while it is possible for some games, it's more difficult to do on others that use propriatary format like EA games.
