HarvestMoon:STH STILL not working! –
02-18-2010,10:07 PM
I've been recently making backups of my PS2 games because I realized my PSX games were dying and I didn't want my PS2 games to do the same - at least not yet. Hmmmm. Ok so I followed this guide to begin with http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthre...t=58489&page=5 ([Tutorial] Converting CD Games to DVD for ESR use) until I realized that FFGriever had posted a remark to someone about the Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland game having more conversion tweaking to do than most other games.
2. Extracted all the files and folders into a New Folder on my desktop (from now on everything I use for this procedure will be stored into the particular folder)
3. Open Hackman Hex Editor, changed the appropriate values in both SLUS_202.51 and IOPRP22
4. I created a 2.0gb dummy file using Dummy File Creator (2gb because HM is only 90MB and need around 1.5gb for PS2 to read)
5. Instead of going into ISObuster I just copied down the list of sectors and file positions listed about by FFGriever and saved it to a text document as ISObuster would normally do (composed correctly). Also at the end of the list I added 600000 ; \[dummy file name]
6. Opened the CD/DVD-ROM Generator v1.50 and clicked "New Project" and "DVD-ROM Master Disc." I then dragged and dropped all the files I had extracted from the HM CD to the CD/DVD-ROM Generator - added my 1.5gb dummy file. Disc Name: SLUS-20251 Volume ID: HARVEST MOON SAVE THE HOMELAND and then saved my .ccz file
7. I opened the CDDVD Helper v2.0, I added my filelist and my .ccz file and it created my new .ccz file with the new sector positions
8. I opened the new .ccz file into CD/DVD Gen and exported the .iml file
9. I opened Gnie's gdvd-iml2iso_v4 and created the ISO
10. Patched the ISO using ESR_disc_patcher_GUI_v0.24a
11. I opened IMGburn and added my new ISO to my sources, changed my DVD+R to a DVD-ROM booktype, speed write at 4x, and burnt.
12. Popped it into my PS2, ESR popped up so it DID read as a DVD, launched the game, color screens flashed, then hung at a black screen.
T_T Please please please HELP ME! It'd be SO appreciated since I've spent well over 12 hours (NO JOKE!) on this and I cannot find a logical solution.
And very sorry for the incredibly long post but I'd rather be thorough in my explanation than leave anything critical out and somehow expect a person to find a solution for me. Thank you very much!
*Problematic Features I Noticed:
1. After using CDVD Helper and opening the new .ccz file into CD/DVD-ROM Gen the START and END values don't match FFGriever's sector values (not sure those are sector values or not)
If your PS2 is networked, I suggest using Open PS2 Loader 0.6. Often times, the game can work via USB or in this program's case can stream the game with it working. This can also save you the hassle of editing the image and burning discs.
There is a chance it could chop during FMV scenes. But that is mainly on the higher detailed/resolution videos. Normally IDE loading doesn't stutter. Depends on the loader. May or may not work. but it's worth a shot.
As for netowrking, you can use any computer/device that uses SMB/Windows Shared Folders for your 'Server'
If you have a NAS or old computer, I prefer that route since you would already be sharing your media files across your network that way. Only makes sense to use it for your PS2 games as well.
Windows XP uses port 445 on SMB
Winodws Vista/7 and most embedded NAS units use 139
Not sure about Linux boxes. But I prefer NAS software on a computer called FreeNAS for that purpose since you can cram a lot more and bigger hard drives into a spare computer than one of the small embedded jobs. It's also more flexable than those as well.
You'll also need to configure your IP address in the PS2. uLaunchELF is a good program to do that since it will create the needed IPCONFIG.DAT in the SYS-CONF folder on your memorycard. It's settings will vary depending on your network's existing IP configuration.
OPL will need to be configured accordingly. you will need to set your server CPU/NAS' IP address within the program. Also the port number according to the OS' requirements. (see above.)
You may want to do some searching in the PS2>Homebrew>HD Homebrew subforum on some tutorials and information to set it up. It's not as dauning as I write it up to be. Since you've installed FMCB, you do at least have some base of how homebrew works, so that is a large part of the battle won.
I have uLaunchelf installed already and I have a two year old laptop running Windows XP Pack 3 and a netbook that is about a year old running Windows XP also. Do I need an ethernet cord for this? Heh I know NOTHING about networking. =/ Never had to before.
Networking can go many ways. The minimal breakdown of it is this: You have to connect both devices to the router to get any connection with the supplied devices mentioned. This can be done a couple of different ways.
PC to router
1. Wired via Ethernet cable
2. Wireless via 802.11(b,g, or n) protocol
PS2 to router
1. Wired directly to router via Ethernet cable
2. Wired to a wireless bridge/Gaming adapter that supports 802.11(b,g, or n)
Before I begin, I know how to set this up, but I often lack the ability to express it verbally how to set this up. So I appologize on anythin that sounds weird on this. And I really suggest looking at basic networking tutorials between computers for a basline understanding of how networks work. Also, It's hard to know exactly what to tell you to set to since I don't know what all equipment you have to work with like:
1. Router (brand, wireless, and is it B, G, or N?)
2. Are you able to hard wire the PS2 to the router?
3. Are your PC's hooked up via Ethernet or wireless? (B, G, or N?)
It's almost impossible to guide you with no real info.
1. Router: Linksys, using it wireless, and it supplies about 20Mbps so I am guessing that is an N? (Router belongs to my sister and I've never had to configure one =/)
2. I don't have a network adaptor but I'm trying to find one to order now, why do they not keep extras even if they do discontinue production???
3. PC's are wireless and could you tell me what b,g,n stand for please?
So I can't connect from my PS2 to my PC via ethernet and access internet that way?
The IEEE standard for wireless local area networking is 802.11. The letter behind it (B, G, N, etc.) is the amendments. Generally, a new amendment means faster transfer rates and increased range, however, there are a few revisions that add some other features which were mostly rolled into the 802.11-2007.
The latest released ammendment is N.
G and N are both backwards compatible i.e. an N router will run a B, G, or N device and an N device will run on a B, G, or N router.
Net adapter are getting hard to find, Ebay is a good choice..
If you are using your 39001, you will need that Net Adapter.
