Hullo all....after playing with Sonic mega collection for alittle while and enjoying the memories - and also realising this works off HDloader - surely......

there would be a way to hack this software , and inject other roms such as SNES or other megadrive roms etc ( like SNESstation that dont usually work on HDloader).

Is this really possbile ? Has it been attempted or ?

This is the first thing that came to mind as I played this as well, I just never asked.

BTW, there's like a 1 gig dummy file in the iso. You can replace it to save some space on your HD .

    bennjamin,

I'm moving this thread since it doesn't belong in the PS2 Dev/Homebrew section. Hacking commerical games is not releated to programming the PS2/creating homebrew software for PS2. I just moved the thread for the PS2 Dev/Homebrew forum to the Game Backup forum since this thread has nothing to do with PS2 deving/homebrewing.

A good point - as my "home brew" relevance was vauge to say the least.

Anyway - I am positive this idea has come up before....jsut no one has bothered trying ?

has anyone tried taking the roms off the game to see if they run in an emu, like pgen.

If so then you should be able to do vice versa.

Well, I researched the Sonic Mega Collection over at Allps2 ( http://www.allps2.com/ ) & it mentioned that that these games are from Sonics early years so these games would have to be from the Sega Genesis aka Megadrive so this collection would be using a Sega Genesis emulator. IMO, it wouldn't even be worth the trouble to try to hack this collection to inject more roms since we already have a Sega Genesis emulator for PS2 called PGEN.

Trying to inject SNES roms wouldn't even work because this collection would be using a Sega Genesis emulator & it wouldn't even be able to read SNES roms.

BTW: I never knew that this was on PS2, so this weekend, I am going out to a local game store to purchase Sonic Mega Collection. I've only played freeware remakes of Sonic but I never got to play the original Genesis versions since I never even owned a Genesis.

I really love these classic game compilations & I really hope that other companies follow suit & release more classic games on PS2.

I too , have pgen and snes station etc running on my ps2 - no worries. My thought of "hacking" this other software tho , is the abililty to use it with HDloader and other ps2 HD software. ( as normal emulators/roms will not work - but his sega collection does ?!?) .

HAcking the sega collection would actually be worthwhile, because it's emulator is probably more accurate than PGEN (which doesn't handle priorities properly. Witness how SOnic pops up in front of teh logo)

Oh yes - surely...it wouldnt take too much - to hack this software open and atleast try swappign some of the roms with say other megadrive roms ...see if that works - then expand on the idea and finally see if you can inject + submenu other emulators etc.....

    anyone ???
