V7 PS2 with a CC 1.2. I burned the game onto a Verbatim DVD+R DL using ImgBurn with optimal layer break. During the intro the game goes black. I've burned DL games before and never had a problem, but I've also never completed a DL game so I suppose if they layer break later I might be in trouble.
So:
Is there something special I need to do?
What are the symptoms of a system that doesn't like DL games? Do they read the first layer or just not work?

Um, thanks Mr. Smartass. I know my PS2 reads dual layer originals. What I am trying to figure out is whether or not it reads both layers of a DL backup. Do I need to set a custom layer break position?
My first DVD9 copy are the same problem... FREEZE when save the GREAT CHASM and if you bypass the save point the Icarus cutscene don't load :(
I have fresh burn the ISO using CloneCD 5.3.0.1 and NOW EVERYTHING IS OK!
I think the secret is because CloneCD respect the ORIGINAL layer break position since version 5.2.7.1

break position of the destination disc will be exactly at the same
location as the source disc (does not work with DVD-R DL media, because
DVD-R DL media has a fixed layer break position)
NOTE: I have used a cheap DVD+R media :p (DOTCOM)
Ive got the same problem. UGH Im right there. Id run it off the HDD but I cant connect it to my PC.
I have a problem with my v4 PS2 with Magic 3. I burned the game with DVD Decrypter on a HP DVD+R DL media with my Pioneer DVR-111L at 2.4x, which book types it to DVD Rom. I have patched the ISO with Toxic Dual Layer Patcher. So when I insert the disk it doesn't load (it goes to the menu with Browser and System Configuration. Can I still play the game?
I also have a V7 but with a CC2 SE. My screen also goes black in the intro. It goes black the moment Cratos is almost done shrinking. I burned mine with Alcohol to a Memorex DVD+R DL.Quote:

It might be the media. The PS2 always seems to be happier with DVD-R DL.
I tried both GOW and GOW II backups (my kids destroy the discs, so I make it a point to make a backup and stick the original in the closet) on DL discs (I only had +R DL) and it was hit or miss if it would work.
My +R DL loaded up the first time I tried, but subsequent times it would hang at the beginning black screen, and other times it would play. *shrug*
I ended up rebuilding the disc as a DVD5 (single layer) image and playing it that way. Sure, the cut scenes are pixelated, but the game plays just fine. And I can live if the disc gets destroyed 'cause I've still got the original. :)
