Getting DVD-R Movies to play on the PS2
Getting DVD-R Movies to play on the PS2 –
I have been burning backups of my DVD movie's for a couple of months (got fed up with the kids scratching the originals)... I use SmartRipper then IFOEdit to strip to the movie only sometimes using Chopper (anyone know of something better than Chopper) to cut the titles off the end so that it will fit on one disc. so far so good about 40+ working on PC's and stand alone DVD players with no problems.
Then the kids tried to play them on their PS2's.... Oooop's no go, not one would play. One PS2 is a V7 the other is a V5/6 with a Magic 3 chip, both are UK PAL.
I have just formatted the C: drive and gone up to Win 2000 Pro with NTFS filing system from W98SE in an attempt to sort the problem and clean the system.
I have never had problems with my DVD-R games all work fine using PrimoDVD V2 on the modded PS2 so assume that the DVD-R media is copmatible with the PS2 laser.
My problem.... Can you help me to get the movies to work on the PS2 it seems to be with the burning mode that I use with Nero (V220.127.116.11) if I use ISO/UDF I get the red screen please insert a PS2 disc, if I use UDF I get a black screen with a diamond and the word play in the top left followed by just a black screen, remember that I rip the movies using the movie only option in IFOEdit V0.96 B1.
Yesterday I tried DVDXCopy V1.2.2 on my 2 disc version of "Silence of the Lambs" (disc 1 only) which DVDXCopy made into 2 DVD's... they play fine on the PC and my stand alone player but the first disc would not play on the PS2 just came up with a browser/setup screen then a cant read disc message BUT DISC TWO PLAYED FINE ????
Please help or give me some pointers I think its down to the check box's that I check in Nero possibly. Dont suggest the latest version of Nero.... that was another reason for formatting the hard drive.
ill post a full tutorial soon, as i said in the other thread, and check yer pm for my reply
boot your dvd-r movie:
Use the DVD-Movie boot method
When the black screen appears press select to open the dvd player menu.
now click on the play button.
I have tried as you suggest but none of the buttons on the player menu will move past the black screen.
It must be a problem with the Nero disc format or a navigation pack problem.
Here is the latest update....
DVD is my personal copy of Lake Placid (as its a DVD5 PAL)
DVDXCopy V131, Standard ISO/UDF, Alternate Burn Engine.
Will only play with WinDVD V3.1 on the PC, will not play with the H+ card in my PC, will not play on my stand alone DVD player and will not play on the PS2.
DVD Decrypter V18.104.22.168 using the ISO option to read and write.
Will play with WinDVD V3.1 on the PC, will play with the H+ card in my PC, will play on my stand alone DVD player and will not play on the PS2.
DVDXCopy V131, Alternate UDF, Alternate Burn Engine.
Will play with WinDVD V3.1 on the PC, will play with the H+ card in my PC, will play on my stand alone DVD player and WILL play on the PS2. Was it a fluke...
The problem now is how can I work out the burn parameters so that I can manually drive the burner with a DVD9 rip in movie only mode from IfoEdit.
