Here is the 2nd test I've had the pleasure of running. Unfortunately, I was unable (too lazy) to purchase new media at the time of this posting. Again, the setup is as follows:
PlayStation 2 v4
StarChip
GameShark 2 1.99d
I used my Pioneer A04 to make a backup of Max Payne using RecordNow DX at 1 speed onto a Princo DVDR.
I purchased a pre-owned copy of DMC (so I wouldn't have to bother for a while with larger TOC discs) and used that as my original swap disc.
Unlike the previous two tests I've run this one will only boot the introduction. Doing anything to get past that (ie: pressing start or letting the intro finish) will send the system back to the memory/game disc selection screen (grey background).
If anyone else has had any luck with a similar setup please post your findings. There are, sadly, too many factors at play here to isolate just one. I cannot narrow it down to media because the previous 2 tests were successfuly done on Princo DVDRs
Let me know if you've had a smiliar experience and wheter or not you were able to remedy it. I'll keep on plugging for the time being.
Cheers!

If you go over to www.help-forums.com and search on member "Rajung". Back in Ddecember/January I helped him out on a Starchip problem with DVD-Rs.
Now his problem was different and solved by using a v4 rather than a v3 with the Starchip. But he documented the succesful boot method and that may be of help to you.
Hope the thread is still there.

Thanks charlie. However, this was more of a test than anything. I have been attempting to use as many kinds of DVDR media as possible and documenting their success/failure rate(s). I always fall back on the Pioneer DVDR when I find a brand which doesn't work. Rest assured that I attempted the same burn using Pioneer media and the boot up was a success. It doesn't really matter which boot method I use as I've found both the 'too many codes' and 'updating code(s)' methods to work
I thank you for your reply. Just in case anyone reads and is wondering; the Princo DVDRs are hit and miss. Nothing you guys probably don't already know. Mind you, I record everything at 1x.
