First DVD Recorder...

Pioneer started the whole recordable DVD market, so I'd trust them more when it comes to the -R, Sony was in on the +R so that would be my choice if you're going that route. Both are great drives--but the Pioneer can be nabbed for typically $50 - $100 cheaper just about anywhere you go. You also have more people working on the Pioneer Firmware's, so you would stand a better chance of resolving any issues with the various namebrand media out there. Prices are starting to creep back up again, but the -R still tends to be cheaper in quantity, so whichever drive you choose you might want to give the -R format a try first. If it works well in your devices it could save you some extra cash in the long run.

I live in Cypress Point and drive a blue Nissan Sentra with US Flags on both sides. You can't miss it, it's parked right off the street to your right when you pull in--right in front of the door flying Old Glory 24/7.
