After reading all the forums, it seems to me that if you are using the ESR booting method for backups, you can use the Memento or ESR iso pather. Is there a major difference between the two or do they do the same thing?

afaik, they basically do the same thing.
esr patcher might be more feature-complete (support more image types, etc).
Take a look at an ISO inside ISOBuster an you'll see the difference ;)
Can ESR boot DVD9 games? A friend of mine told me it would work i don`t know the method(the game is Dynasty Warriors 6 Special)
yes ESR works with DVD9 games.. You patch it the same way you would with any other game..

I don't burn DL discs myself (still too expensive media), but from what I've heard you also need to apply the Toxic DL patch to the ISO before you apply the ESR patch.
ESR will make the disc readable in either case, but the Toxic patch is needed to compensate for the different implementation of DL for burned discs as opposed to the implementation on pressed original discs. So without that patch the disc would fail to work correctly beyond the layer break.
