I remember Mathieulh comment that the BD drive has different modes for each kind of disc it's reading. So I really think it's extremely unlikely that anything like ESR would work with the PS3 simply due to a coincidence of these "modes" making such exploits impossible.
And of a security standpoint, having such "modes" only make sense as their goal was keep people with like for example PS3 linux from authenticating a PS1 or PS2 disc then extracting security information from it (like the XMB would do to indentify which type of disc is on the drive).
So I honestly believe that ESR or anything similar is simply impossible on the PS3.
