    I backup

True Crime NYC Original Disc - NTSC
    to
    Memorex DVD+R 16X (burned at 4x)

    I used Alcohol 120%

It was patched with the latest esr and worked with 0 problems and no all of the sudden I loaded it and it froze, I tried again and it just spins the disc up/down.

I tried several other esr backups and they worked fine........

The disc was recently labeled but I labeled all my backups including the 3 others that I tested and worked fine

Is it bad media? The working games were burned with

    Memorex DVD-R 8X (burned at 4X)

Sounds like it. I might have one or two bad disks at the bottom of a stack of 100 for some reason. Why don't you try to burn your patched .ISO's with IMGburn. It seams to be one of the best for burning PS2 .ISO images. I have over 150 games backed up, and have had to re-burn maybe 3 or so. Try to burn it again with IMGburn, and see if that helps out. DJ

If the backup aint working, its not going to be considered reliable enough to use to make another backup.

Its possible that if it once worked ok, it might not be the disc, but the lens instead. Did you try cleaning it?

I'm not sure what to clean it with, don't have a cleaning disc...

Anyway originals and my other backups work, so I don't think its the laser....
oh I've heard that backups kill the laser, if true why? and are replacements a bit more powerful?

    EDIT

reburning the backup to the other media fixed it

I have another bad game but no original anymore and it gave read errors on backup oh well..

You can use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip in a slow circular motion, for about 20 sec. And yes backups are hard on lasers, it really has to do with the quality of the DVD. Verbatim, Sony, and such are good quality media. As for replacement lasers they aren't that expensive, you just have to make sure you get the right one for your model of PS2. DJ

I bought my Ver. 7 I have now brand new back in the day $400.00+ . And it's been to Iraq and back x2. Watched prolly 300 DVD movies on it. And plenty of backups played on it. And it has yet to mess up. Knock on wood for that. DJ

Maybe the DVD+R 16x was a bit worser media and maybe it also decrease the live-span of your laser a bit, but maybe the backup was simply destroid.

Im still using my very first PS2 (bought around launch date) and its hanging in there, but is sometimes picky on what it wants to load. I have cleaned it so many times i thought i might have worn off a layer ....lolz......and i have adjusted it to the max it will go for all media types.

It wont load anymore PS2 CDs, but PS2 DVDs, ps1 CDs and audio Cds still work just fine and its very , very picky on backup media.....only cheap Sony CD-R seems to work best, but a few others sometimes work. Some DVD Movies also wont load, but many other still do. Its been on its last leg for a bout 2 yrs now, but still working.
