Hi, I've just started out trying the backup thing on my PS2 and am running into issues with my discs not being recognized in the PS2.

I have FMCB installed on a memory card that appears to be working fine (newbie package on the FMCB site). I've ripped an ISO from my copy of Tekken 4 (with DVD Decrypter) and patched it with the ESR disk patcher .24a; I've burned copys of the patched ISO on both DVD-r and DVD+r using imgburn (DVD+r are a sony brand, -r a memorex) all with the same results: disc read error in the ps2 browser and unknown media in ESR.

I have tried changing the booktype for the dvd+r to dvd rom and it didn't appear to have any effect. The ps2 has no problems reading regular games or dvds. I've also used a mix of burning speeds with both disk types. Does anyone have any pointers or tips as to what I may be doing wrong?

Tekken 4 has been reported as working, so I don't see why you would be having such a hard time with it. Then again, you haven't mentioned whether or not you've tested other games. Therefore we have to assume you have a bad rip. So test other games, report the results. If you're having the same issue, there might be something wrong with your console.

By copy I meant my original Tekken 4 game disk. I used an image of NHL 2006 that I ripped with imgburn to setup my memory card for FMCB (following instructions on replacing a file in the disk in this thread http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62295 (PS2 Game Swap Trick - List Submissions)) which worked for me, so it seems the PS2 can read the media (that was the sony dvd+r). I have also tried ripping a backup from the NHL 2006 disk and using the ESR patch tool that shows in the ESR gui as "unknown media". I really have no idea where to go from here. Are there any adjustments to settings in imgburn/dvd decrypter that I should know about?

    EDIT:
I haven't had any luck with any burned disks in the ps2; it is a fat model I got second hand that needed a good cleaning to work in the first place. The image I made of Tekken loads up in PCSX2 fine so at least that was successful. I'm thinking of picking up a Network Adapter and trying to use HDLoader instead because I don't want to waste anymore media.

    ok, step one
    1) get IMGburn from
    http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

    2) use IMGburn to create ISO from disk.

    3) Using esr patcher patch disk

    4) burn disk using IMGburn at 4x Speed on a high quality dvd, try Vetribum? not sure bout spelling.

Check that you also have latest verion of ESR and Free Mcboot

Well, that is exactly what I did. I could try some other recordable media, but I have gotten hdloader and opl working with the network adapter and harddrive I have. Thanks for the help anyways!
