Can you see how difficult it is to assist in either statement without a little more information to help narrow things down a bit? Little stuff like:
- What brand and model burner? (CD-R or DVD-R)
- What burning application [and version number]? (CDRWin, PrimoDVD, Nero, etc.)
- What OS are you running? (Win98, Win2K, WinXP)
Providing basic information is an important part of any troubleshooting, as everyone's setup is different and we're not mindreaders... ;)
I have a Verbatim 40X burner. DVD rom that originally came with the 8650C HP. I am also Windows 98 . I am trying to use CDRWIN, version 3.9a. Everytime I try to load a PS2 game I get a load error/device not ready. Can you please help. Thanks!
Your trying to load a DVD in through CDRwin?

Simply put, you're trying to mix apples and oranges. Your Verbatim CD-R unit can't read DVDs or burn a DVD-R, only CD-R/RWs, plus CDRWin has NO support for DVD readers or burners (and it's still unknown as to when they ever will.) CDRWin is expecting to find a disc in CD format in the tray (i.e., if you've inserted a DVD-based game) and thus can't read the format and errors out.
You'll need a DVD-R burner like a Pioneer DVR-A04 or Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM drive, plus there's no guarantee that the DVD reader that came with your HP machine can read PS2 DVDs. My guess is that it may be a DVD+RW unit, unless you're lucky.
You'll also need a burning app like PrimoDVD, RecordNow Max, or Nero to read the PS2 disc and later to burn the image it creates to a blank DVD-R.
Now, in the off-chance that you're trying to back up a PS2 game that you've verified is in Compact Disc format (as stated on the lower right rear of the game cover), then things should work just fine under CDRWin in creating the Bin/Cue files -and- if you know for sure your Verbatim burner is actually supported by CDRWin v3.9a (if not, check the Supported Devices page at www.goldenhawk.com)
Thanks for providing a little more info to go on and I hope that solves your mystery...
