For a v5 both should work, but the ps2 tends to like -r better though.
I have a launch PAL PS2 and it reads DVD+R media perfectly.
So do my friends PS2.
Identify your PS2 version and you'll have a better clue. v5's are roughly 50/50 or 60/40 -R/+R (in other words, -R tends to be a bit more reliable in them). Later than v5 is pretty much an even playing field for -R/+R success. Earlier then v5 is pretty much just -R. You also need to consider any other devices that you may want to use your burned DVD's in. Since your PC has a burner, that's a mute issue--but older drives in other computers (especially Laptops) or older set-top DVD players may respond better to -R with a 1x or 2x burn. If you can swing it, you might want to go for a dual format drive if you are unsure of this other issue--that way you can always try a different format if one fails. Otherwise, it may be best to shoot for a -R format to insure compatability across the board. Not to mention the media has been a bit cheaper for -R lately as well.
