Not that it woulde be an answer, but you can expect nothing but headache from Princo disks. If you consider dealing with PS2 disks seriously, why do you not choose a respected media instead of Princo ??? They are not just bad but can cause serious laser problems, not to mention the data you store on them will disappear sooner than you think. Anyway, the writting speed depends on some factors: the drive, the software and the writing speed strategie that is on the media. If those disks are just for 4x speed, you can do nothing, especially with a drive like the NEC. I suggest you to check the media speed with DVDInfopro. Anyway, 1x writing won't be an option for you, as the Nec is one of those drives that cannot write at 1x at all. So your lowest speed is 2x, which is ok for reliable disks but for Princo as said it almost does not matter what speed you use, as this low quality media is almost unusable in any console. Switch to Ritek, they are cheap and work like a charm.

    regards, Stephen
