  1. #1 Angry DVD-rips stuck at 'Start' screen

I've just burned Drag-on Dragoon and Lethal Skies II and both games boot to the "Start" screen, but neither will start when I hit the button (or any button) on the dualshock...

The start screen isn't frozen, since I can still see the animated "Press Start Button" text continuously moving, it just doesn't respond to the controller.

What could be the issue??? ...this is really frustrating.

I can play other rips fine with the same controller...is there something special about these particular games?

    TIA!

Here's more info on this deepening mystery!

Whenever I burn a DVDrip on my older system (Plextor CD-R 412c) 4x speed using CDRwin I get the issue with the games not recognizing the dualshock controller. (My newer system in kinda' messed up right now and I can't burn)

The latest rip I've burned (Tak & the power of Juju) actually boots to a screen asking for the controller to be plugged in. So the rips are working, something is going on in the burn.

Any idea why this happens? Would it have anything to do with overburning being necessary or what?

    PLEASE HELP!

ummm, if games are booting and just not recognizing that a controller is plugged in, i doubt its a problem with the way you're burning. sounds more like a busted controller, busted controller port, or the cable for the controller port came loose.

does it do that when you boot retail games?

That's the thing...Retail games boot and play fine. Same thing with about 50 other (older) rips. So I know the DualShock is fine.

I don't know what has changed with my computer system that would have brought this on. My PS2 seems fine.

I just updated my burner BIOS and I'm using CDRwin 3.9D.
    Same issue. Argh!

Only thing I can figure is that it must be that my CD burner is an older model (Plextor 412c, like 4-5 yrs old). It has burned PS1 games for years, but PS2 must be another story.

I'll have to get my newer system (w/ a newer burner) up and running again, since that burned PS2 rips perfectly.

Could the age/features of the burner be an issue?
How are PS2 tracks layed out on a disc? Does hitting start or whatever cause the game to load from outer ring of the disc, which may not be getting closed correctly...or something...

thanks for the reply! this just boggles my mind.

    OH. MY. GOD.

I knew the solution would turn out to be the stupidiest element of the whole debacle. Turns out that, in the end, my Dualshock2 was faulty and it went bad at the same time my HD became too fragmented to burn rips properly, so it was confusing the issue.

Looks like SOME games absolutely require a Dualshock2 and one of the buttons must have been faulty enough to cause those games to ignore the controller altogether, even though it worked fine in about 70+ other games. I only had one DS2, so that didn't help me in troubleshooting. However, after returning it for a new one...problem solved. Good call Prisoner1138!
