Hi people, I'm considering to purchase a dvd burner but would like to have some advice. To burn ps2 dvd games, is it simply a matter of copying the ps2 dvd straight to a dvd-r or is it more complicated? Like does it involve tweaking or patching the image file? Also I know there are different dvd formats but all I've seen available at stores so far are labelled dvd-r, just wondering are dvd+r's labelled dvd-r as well or is there a way to distinguish between the formats? TIA

Most games are just 1:1 copies. The only time you'd need to do anything (if you know how) is when games are on DVD9. DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs will be labelled differently, for what they are.

You also need to patch if you need to change the game from pal to ntsc or vice versa.

I see you have the US V7 PS2 w/ Apple Chip. I have the same US V7 PS2 w/ Apple chip and I can't play Splinter Cell as it seems to detect my Apple Mod chip. When I go to load up the 1st game, the Training mission, it boots me out and this is the Oringinal disc of Splinter Cell. I also have a verison 5 with a Flip Top Cover and Swap Magic DVD 2.0 Disc and I get the same thing. However I can play the Original if I boot directly without the Swap Magic Disc but that means I will not be able to play backups.

Just wandering if you have tried Splinter Cell with your Apple chip and if you know if we can install a swtich, to switch off the chip. I got it pre-installed into a Version 7 from Lik-Sang just before they had to take off all there modinfication products. I thought maby if I boot with a backup I can maby switch off the chip just before I load up a level of the game.

Hey stridex - don't get an external drive. I also have a laptop, and this is what I did to save some money. I got an internal drive, and then bought a firewire enclosure. Droped the internal drive into the enclosure, bam, you got an external drive, for like half the cost. I've burned nuemrous movies and PS2 games, without a hitch.
Drop me a line at fcuk@hushmail.com if you need any help with the setup.
