I have a v7 PS2 with a brand-new DMS3 chip, that I installed last week ago. I works great!! Before that I had a v2 PS2 with a Magic 3.1 chip ( i broke that one....damn solder points way too small.) Anyway, one of my friends (my back-up supplier..lol) PLEASE DON'T BAN ME. He said that DVD backups mess up the laser inside. I use Verbatim brand DVD-R's. I see no problem at the time, but should I worry about it in the future?

It's DVD-Rips that mess with the laser, if you use high quality DVD-R like Verbatim and Ritek you will be fine.

    Thanks UltraDude,

Before anyone thinks i'm a total n00b .... it's not true, installing and burning i'm fine with, but w/ all this information w/ rips and iso's come on. Anyway I got another question, Whats the difference between rips and back-ups, there both the same right?
rips come from pirates or something like that? idk... Verbatim is safe right, cause i spent a lot of time and MONEY on this sh*t, a dvd burner, a new PS2, and a DMS3 chip. I don't want to through it all away.

rips are full dvd games ripped to fit on to a cdr. they cause laser damage as it tends to make the laesr harder. Full Backups will only damage the laser if the media is crappy

the LBA is out of order on rips and causes the laser to find the files it needs instead of just going streight to it without much hassle.
