Just rented DMC 2 (brand new, they just got it in today). I have a Neo4.1 all I get is black screen. I tried both discs.

The gold disc comes up in the browser. I checked the TOC, it's exactly the same size as DMC demo (great!) so it's definitely a dvd5 (as expected).

What gives? Has anybody gotten it to boot with a Neo4.1?

    Thanx

I made a backup copy of DMC2 and it works fine on my PS2. I have a V7 PS2 with a Magic2 clone modchip. I used nero to copy the DVDs. I put the first disk on a DVD+RW and the second on a DVD-R.

I'm in dilemma, kinda... I got princo dvd-rs for free(order got messed up, white top)... so far VC, DMC2 on princo x1 are running much better than Verbatim 1x or 2x... verbatim backups don't even boot anymore... but using princo is... suicide to laser. btw, i have v3 ps2... ya... infamous for bad laser...

anywayyy. well, my princo copy of DMC2 works fine. verbatim one.. worked once and not anymore. doesn't even show up in "browser" screen... stuck on "reading disc"..

Ok, my copy worked fine, but just like the original (boots after 2-3 tries...). My v4 ps2 laser sucks like that, I guess. I'm happy though. My verbatim dvd-r's work 100%. This is the only game that does this, that's why I thought Capcom had put some kind of protection on it.....guess not.

    BTW, awesome game!

my frikkin copies are f#cked up. they either, don't boot at all and go to browser, or just load up to the New Load or Option screen, and when i pick new or load, it freezes....

    i burned on maxell...

i think i'm gonna go on memorex now.

Memorex are nearly as bad as Princos and Riteks, so don't waste your money. Try cleaning your laser lens if you haven't done so in a while. You'd be surprised...

i've actually cleaned it so often in the past few days right now.

all my memorex's haven't had this much of a problem playing

now i tried maxell cuz these guys were on sale, and it won't even load.........maybe i'll go for verbatim for dmc2

The sad fact is depending on how many hours are on the unit, the laser may be on the way out. If you're the brave sort, you might try reading through Charlie's laser pot adjustment over in the FAQ and Guides forum and take a multimeter/VOM and check what the current ohm readings are on your DVD side pot. Perhaps a small tweak maybe enough to get a little more life out of it, but odds are you'll eventually replace it...

tweaked it less then about 5 percent...now it reads...

nicely done. now i expect its death to be sooner...but it was already dying, just pushing him towards the light.
