Hi i have NEC 1300A DVD-RW and i wondered which disk is better for this recorder!any advice?
Yep i got advice, i just got one of these things since it was dirt cheap and my pioneer 105 has had a workout the last year...
My NEC hates:
(These brands either didn't boot or booted then skipped and froze in PS2 or didn't play in my dvd player due to bad burns and thier dye sucks, no reflectivity)
Memorex dvd-r
Princo dvd-r (the 4X kind, the 1X work ok)
Maxell dvd-r
Optodisc dvd-r
My NEC loves:
(These brands played and booted properly in PS2 and dvd player, same games and titles i used with the dvd-rs my nec hated worked fine with these brands)
Ritek dvd-r
Verbatim dvd-r
TDK dvd-r
Fuji dvd-r
Bulkpaq dvd-r
Mitsui dvd-r
I have so many dvd-r in here from burning with my pioneer drive i just tested each brand i had 1 by 1 on burns and that's what i've come up with so far...I haven't tried any dvd+r/w or dvd-rw yet...
Try updating ur firmawre to 1.09, that helped me with burning a few more brands successfully, u gotta just understand, there are some brands, this drive is just not compatible with some blank media for good burns...they even tell u that on the nec website where u get the firmware update.
Here's the firmware to update ur 1300A to firmware 1.09, worked good within windows, really easy, no problems.
thank you a lot!which disk do you prefer most in good value?and what about TRAXDATA AND INTENSO?I'm using traxdata(2 eyros) for movies and ps2 games and i havent any problem at time!
I've never tried Traxdata or Intenso so i couldn't comment on those dvd-rs...
The disks i like for best value and quality (dye) are the Ritek G03s, they are 2X dvd-rs and their dye is 2nd to none, matter of fact the dye they use is the dye they invented right? not sure but thought that's what i heard...U see it on Verbatims and other high end dvd-rs....anyway, 100-pack for $80 @ meritline.com
Also i heard their 4X dvd-rs, the G04s are even better, so Ritek it is.
thanks, i will try ritek and i'll tell you the results!
From info I've seen on other forums, this drive seems to require the Ritek G03/TDK 2X standard for reliable DVD-R burning. This drive was designed following the +RW camp first and -RW second, so you may actually get better results with a cheap +R media if you have a PS2 that will read it well. The discs that typically meet this higher quality standard that I've used in my A04 have been the Accu and Lead Data certified 2X, True 2X, and the 2X TDK's and Verbatims. I've tried some OptoDisk 2X's (the Liquid Video Brand sold at Circuit City) and they bombed in the PS2 unless burned at 1X. My "it plays anything" Apex DVD Player (hacked 1100) didn't like the OptoDisk spec much either unless at 1X burns.
Basically, you don't want to go el-cheapo on the -R with these drives.

Traxdata is great too. They use Ritek dye.
