I burned my games on verbatim metal azo, it has a purple color. But the cd player makes noise while reading data, is this bad? I don't have this with silver dvd's (not sure for cd-r).

Ahoy! The lower the reflectivity of the disc, the harder the laser works ta focus. Search the forums 'ere and you'll find a few threads on it. I'd do the search for ye, but I'm short on time today. Sorry.
Does it matter if you write your games at 1x speed or max speed if you burn it from an image?
Arrrrrrrrr, that be a topic of debate so it is. Most people find that writing at 4x be the "sweet spot" for a burnin' yer backups.
There are actually only two DVD-R speed standards out there--1X and 4X. To get 2X or 4X, you have to have a capable drive and the proper media. Get a copy of Nero CDSPeed2000 to test your media while it is loaded in your burner. It will tell you what speeds you should be able to reliably use. I posted the details earlier--hopefully it will get stickied.
Here is the link to download it:

Good Luck!

im using 80min Memorex there a light goldish sliver color. are these bad to make cdr backups on? if so what would be some good ones to use. and ones to saw away from
I use 80 minute TDK and also get the noise. I think that might just be a normal sound though.
Hmmm...that seems to make it three speed standards then, eh? 1x, 2x, and 4x, with 4x becoming available only just recently with the advent of the A05/105 and other similar drives...Originally posted by RAISTLIN

Then again, I suppose faster than the speed of light could be considered a standard, even though it doesn't exist at the moment either...![]()
