  1. #1 Question Damage 2 PS2 @ high burning speeds?
    DaNaca Guest
I burnt my first 60 PS2 games @ 24x with my Lite-on burner (40x12x48x). After that, I read that burning at high speeds is not advised, so now I burn the games at lower speeds (8x).

Anyone got problems with damaged PS2's after playing high speed burnt games? And if so, what will be damaged, 'just' the laser or more? Is 8x (s)low enough for PS2-games or can I still expect problems with my PS2 in the (near) future if I continue playing with those games?

    Thanks!

Nothing will be damaged, it's just depends on your burner and the condition of your particular laser. With older burners, burning faster caused the data pits to be shallow (laser time over the media) and elongated (faster speed stretching out the pit), making it more difficult for the laser to pick up the data. Most newer burner have compensation circuitry built in, so its not that much of an issue anymore. 4x still seems to be the sweet-spot for CD-Rs, with multiples of 4 working good too (8, 12, 16, etc.)

For the life of me, I still can't figure why folks go through all the trouble and then are reluctant to spend a few extra minutes to ensure a quality burn...

So if a guy burns a cdr at 8x and the game works fine then he doesn't have anything to worry about right - if it works it works ?

That's a relief, I burnt my first 60 games @ 24x on the cheapest CDR's I could find. Not that I still play those games, lots of games (rips) are barely worth the cdr. But that's personal I guess.........

If you get a CD that you bought and it is on crap media and you know they burned it at high speed then is it worth burning at a lower speed on better media?

    Will it improve things?

i burn my cds at 8x and 16x depending on the media because i am not too patient and havent had any problems yet, But when i burn at fast speeds the cd has to be read a few times till it actually starts working correctly.

Balto, I just want to get something straight.

If you burn a game at 12x and burn one at 2x and everything is the same (eg-load time) then the 12x burn is in no way doing anything negative to your laser?

I kind of asked this question before but I read on another forum
about more stress on your laser and your reply to my previous question -"that's the just of it" makes me think that you are saying" more or less you are right"

Can that question be answered with a Yes or No. If so which one is it?

Yes-if they play the same you don't have anything to worry about.

No- even though they play the same damage to your laser could still be happening and you wouldn't know it.

    thanks,
