I'm about to backup a movie (Friday After Next) which is a DVD10 movie (4.7GB on each side), however none of the stores near me sell recordable DVD10 media, so on to my question. Would it hurt to glue two normal DVD-Rs back to back and make sort of a custom DVD10?

Though I'm not entirely sure on this, I'd say "Yes it would hurt." That extra thickness might make the drive/player not close correctly, be off balance, or something. If it's the kind of movie that you have to flip over, or whatever, why not just put it on two SEPERATE discs, anyway? What advantage do you have by gluing the thing together? Far as I'm aware, no DVD players read from both sides automatically, anyway....even if they did, I KNOW that extra thickness would screw it up....

they sell dvd10 media on sites, try searching with google (whaddya know, the first result is a site that sells em)

why does it need to be a dvd10 anyway? you still have to swap when you go from side to side, so just burn it to 2 dvdr...

BTW, dual layer disks are DVD 9, Dual sided disks are DVD 10. That is because the second layer on a disk can only hold about 4 gigs of data.

Alos, are you using DVDXCopy to backup your titles? I just got it, but have not found anything worth the effort yet.

go ahead and do that. keep in mind that the drive spins @ 200+ mph and that the slightest unbalance will make it vibrate so much it'll sound like a train. it's been tried before with a 48x external drive...that was fun buh bye drive tho

One side of the DVD is probably full screen and the other side is widescreen. Although this might not be the case with this movie. Alot movies now have full screen on one side and wide screen on the other.

It is one side full screen and one side widescreen so i think you will only want to even bother burning one side.

True, Cataulin, which is why I chose to burn the side that had the full screen verison only. And for some of you out there who seem to be a little confused, dvd9 is a dual-layered disk while dvd10 is dual-sided. Also I'm using a combination of dvd decryptor and instant copy to make my movies to anyone who cares.
