First off, give a forum noob some love, or a hug at least. Hello!

Second, I tried to search but I am having a lot of goofy problems and wasn't getting anything in the search engine

    Third - the problem

    Info:

games- soul reaver 2, legacy of kain defiance

programs- dvd decrypter and/or alcohol 120%

media- memorex dvd+r 16x recordable, burnt at 4x 8x and 16x, no differences.

    ps2 v7 and v5-6 (not sure) with modbo 4.0

I have copied a few PS2 games with alcohol and they obviously did not have any encryption and worked great on both systems. Also plenty of PSX games, no problems

With these 2 games (and I am sure many others that I haven't tested yet, but are encoded) They will boot, yet music can skip, videos skip, and load screens freeze up almost 90% of the time. If I do get into the game, it plays fine. It seems to me that decrypter can't put out a nice copy... but I have no clue really what I'm doing so, any advice?

Also, last I read, memorex was an ok 2nd class media (never had any trouble with it with any other games), but I would like to know what the best of the best currently is, just in case.

You can try to rip your games with ImgBurn, which is improved version of dvd decrypter.

Before you'll waste more discs, memorex was never qualified as a quality media, if you want your laser to last long use Sony or Verbatim brand media.

    dvd+r
That's your problem, most of fat PS2 with KHS and HD7 lasers have problems reading DVD+R discs as they use different addressing system ( phase modulation) and frequency which cause a lot of problems with older DVD drives. You should burn your games using DVD-R discs instead at x4 - x8 speed. If this won't solve your problem that's propably a hardware fault.

Thanks for the info on the +r vs -r.

So it is possible then for some games to play just fine on the same type of +r media, but then out of nowhere not work with other games?

Oh, and the burner is a plextor px880sa. At the time I got it, plextor was supposed to be a great brand, but I recently read how this model is just a Lite-on burner... Not sure how accurate that is though.

What would you guys say is a good quality DVD burner but not too pricey?

I prefer Samsung drives (or Toshiba/Samsung aka TSSTCorp)

I'd suggest you to look for the Sony / LG / Samsung burners, they're most reliable and offer excellent quality / price ratio. Few examples:

    - LG SuperMulti DVD+/-RW GP08NU20
    - Sony / NEC (Optiarc) DVD+/-RW AD-7240S
    - Samsung DVD+/-RW SH-S223C

So I got some verbatim disks and the certain PS2 games I had a problem backing up, now work flawlessly. As I was picking up the verbatim DVDs, I figured I would get some CD-R as well. Well guess what... No PSX game burned on these disks work.

I tried to play the games on an emulator, and they work fine using the backup CD in my drive.

I also used memorex CD-R and they worked fine (except for WCII and Diablo... having trouble getting those 2 to work on any disk yet even those 2 disks will work on an emulator)

So, any ideas as to why I can get some PSX games to work on Memorex, and absolutely nothing to work on Verbatim CD-R while in my PS2?

P.S. Alcohol 120% only lets me burn as slow as 16x, how do you get it lower?
P.S.S. I burned other games at max speed and they are flawless so I don't know if burn speed is the problem on the Verbatim disks.

Fat PS2s have "picky" lasers. They'll only work with good, high quality media. However not even all of them will work.

I think that people have stated that Verbatim manufactures good DVD-R discs (Those with Super AZO, manufactured by Taiyo), but their CD-R discs didn't work with FAT PS2s (Need some confirmation on this, since this is based on my past research).

P.S. Alcohol 120% only lets me burn as slow as 16x, how do you get it lower?
Your drive might not support lower speeds.

P.S.S. I burned other games at max speed and they are flawless so I don't know if burn speed is the problem on the Verbatim disks.
You're right: Burn speed might not be the problem.

Fact: The "set to a lower burn speed" trick is usually meant for older burners, and burners that can't burn discs reliably at higher speeds.

Just try some another brands, but avoid some brands like Imation (C&C Magnetics Corp.).

I personally use Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD-Rs with Super AZO (Taiyo), and Sony CD-Rs for PSX games.
