Is this considered illegal/piracy?

I have backups for my games and i usually play with them instead of the originals. But i recently bought SSX3 - PAL (i´m in Europe), the problem is that the PAL version doesn´t support 480p. Since i have the original, would it be piracy playing with a NTSC backup (in order to play in 480p that looks a lot nicer!)?
I can´t really tell if it is legal or not (or in the border of legal...), after all it is the same game, there is no difference in content..
I feel a bit confused about this...

where did you got your Backups ?

I only have 3 other games (the final fantasy series), i made the backups with dvd decrypter). This would i would have to *cough* download it in NTSC. I´ve had Shadow of Colussus from a friend and played it in 480p and the image was a lot better on a HDTV.
By your question i suppose that it isn´t the fact of having a backup in a different region format that is important, but where it came from?

i mean if you made Backup from your originals its legal

downloaded or anything else is illegal .

hmm. actually it isn´t and it is here in Portugal... the law here is a bit weird... you are allowed to download anything from the internet, it ony becomes illegal if you keep it for more than 24h! But that is not my point. What i want to know is if having a PAL original and playing with a NTSC backup of the same game is legal.

well here is not Portugal or any other place i am talking about here so it consider illegal ..

and since your NTSC is not made from your original game then its not allowed here ..

Is will be illegal - why - because you have pal not ntsc. You can always patch you pal version to ntsc.

oh.. that sucks... 480p is a lot prettier...
So only backups made from MY originals are permitted...
Obviously i should only bother with the law of where i live, i´ll investigate to see if it is legal here. When i started this thread i thought piracy laws were universal, but it seems they aren´t... (if it was another game i would consider buying a NTSC original on ebay, games for PS2 are very cheap now, but i´m not that bothered with this one).

pacthing the PAL version to NTSC won´t add the 480p feature... it exist only in the NTSC version.

if you own the original game its ok .
and i meant the original game .it doesn't matter if you have PAL or NTSC they are not allowed here to discuss if they are not made from the original .
