CDGENPS2 v.2.0 ps2---->avi
CDGENPS2 v.2.0 ps2---->avi –

Id like to help my friend play avi <divx3,4,5> on his ps2.
But he does not have a mod chip.
I have CDGENPS2 v.2.0 and it seems farily simple. but the ps2 in question does not yet have a mod chip. so i dont want to waste a disc, if hes not sure he wants to spend the money on the chip.
is there a way to get around this? without spending $$.
someone had mentioned an emulator that might help. is there such a thing as an emulator that does the same thing as a mod chip?
Ive also been told that playing avi on the ps2 can have negitive effects on its laser. is this true? I dont want to break it.
my last question is how long do you guys think it will be before the ps2 can play movie encoded w/ xvid?

First off you will need to get the PS2Reality MediaPlayer

The mediaplayer comes with a version of cdgenps2 that is fully functional for its purpose, no need for that

yes, but your friend will have to use the LH method (leave the ps2's case open, and take the disc out of the drive manually) or the Knife trick (force open the cd tray by pushing the white cog). But using this method, you'll have to put the movie and they player on the same disc. its much better to get a modchip

not true. even if it did damage the laser it wouldnt be enough. its not damage as in physical harm to it, its damage as in the laser might burn out from over-use
my last question is how long do you guys think it will be before the ps2 can play movie encoded w/ xvid? the media player can play xvid. but you have to change the FourCC to divx5 for it to play.
