Hi,
I got a friend with 2x DVD-R Burner, and he got cheap DVD-R Media as low 1$ each. Verbatim brand CD-R discs are same price here, so I'm confused.
I downloaded lots of isos from internet.
Should I burn them to dvd-r discs (with purple layer) or burn to verbatim and hear buzz noises from laser?
What do you recommend?
The file that you download will determine whether it require a DVD-r or CD-r you do not get a choice.
ISO's will almost certainly be CD based.
whereas GI's will be DVD based.

Note: Depends on where you D/Led them from. Some folks are also releasing full DVD titles in the old-fashioned ISO format too. The NFO that typically accompanies the Rar set should tell you what media is required.
Also tell your friend to expect major booting, loading, skipping, and freezing problems with those $1 DVD-Rs.
I dont know where to find full DVD ISOs, I have cd-rip ones. Can't we burn cd isos to dvd-r discs? Anyway, I'll test one game this weekend and let you know about results, ****ing noise etc.
There is a reason they call them rips people. Parts of the game in some cases are MISSING so even if you could burn a RIP onto a DVD it's pointless. The laser still has to look for files in the same places on the disc going back and forth making the noise you hate. Just burn the game on the best CD media @ 1X or 2X and hope it werks ok.
The reason why I've investigated that RIPS can't be put back onto DVD-R is because of the way that people do media checks.
Instead of taking out the check altogether, they simply just do code that changes a scenario like this:
If DVD == Boot
to
If NOT DVD == Boot
So when it gets stuck back on DVD-R , it stops booting.
I'd really like to see some motion being put towards DVD-RIPS being able to be put back onto DVD-R , but it would require patches that un-patch the media checks ;)
LOL Its beyond me why anyone in their right mind with a DVD burner would want to put multiple, chopped up, and downsampled games intended for folks without a DVD burner, back onto a DVD-R when you could just have the complete game in its native form and format.
I'd really like to see some motion being put towards folks saving up some money and just buying DVD burners so they don't have to mess with a second rate rendition of a game title and can finally enjoy things the way they were originally intended to be... ;)

Also, about dvd checks, this is how it is originally
If not dvd, no boot
If dvd, boot
this is how it is patched
If not dvd, boot
If dvd, boot
Its simply disabling the 'dvd' check, not changing it to not boot on dvd-r.
To change these back is easy :cool:
If for example you have a rip kit telling to the dvd checks,
example rip kit gives you an offset, and tells you to change 02 to 01, to reverse this you change 01 to 02.
Or you can hex compare the original ELF with the changed ELF, which I believe wont be of much result, because now most of the groups patch a P/N selector to their rips, which changes the ELF about 99% :lol:
If you have a mips disassembler (eg IDA pro, dont ask for it here) you can also try and figure out what was patched.

Really? I've heard from many DVD ripper people that the DVD check is simply swapped from
IF DVD == BOOT to IF NOT DVD == BOOT
I'm thinking this is why I've not been able to get any DVD RIPS put back on DVD-R to boot. I've tried many different programs to put the files onto DVD-R, and no luck. It finds it like its a valid PS2 disc in the ps2, but, quickly boots back to the memory card screen.
